Does anyone have any experience hunting these units and would be willing to share some information. My wife and I each have the tag but do not have a lot of time to devote to scouting. We are not really picky and are really looking for some advice on which unit is best to focus our time? If we should be sitting water or if spot and stalk is doable in that country?

Really any information would be great!

Thanks

That is probably the best Antelope tag in NM, which is saying its one of the best tags in the West for Goats.

Land of giants for sure

My son and I drew rifle tags in the VLA area this year.

With the archery tag, you can hunt about anywhere. One of my co-workers arrowed a 17-1/2" antelope in the northwest part of 16E a few years back. I'd keep that in mind. Good luck!

Prime Beef I have a rifle tag as well on the Hand Ranch by the VLA. Which ranch will you be hunting, if I might ask? Maybe we'll run in to each other. I'm sure looking forward to the hunt. Took me nearly 30 years to draw a resident tag.

We're hunting the Bruton Ranch, which is all around the VLA headquarters, with some sections north of the highway.

This is the second antelope tag I've drawn in 25 years. I've probably applied for this particular hunt four or five times.

PM sent.

I really appreciate all the help on this and good luck to all you guys that have the rifle tags! I will do my best to update you on how my scouting and hunting goes. If you don't hear from remind me!

Sounds like I'll be hunting adjacent to the Brunton ranch to the west near the base of Anderson Mountain south of Datil. Good luck on the archery hunt. I'll be anxious to hear how you do. That hunt is late August correct?

Before you notch that tag, take a half a day and drive from the O Bar O on 159 to 163 to 52 then north to the VLA and glass the whole way....

I put in every year for that tag and would try spot and stalk unless I saw a mega buck (high 80's plus), then I might try to pattern him. Good luck!

I saw you drew the Bruton ranch last year my buddy and I drew this year. Do you mind sharing how the hunt went.

This.

that is how I killed mine. it wasn't a matter of finding them, it was how big and how many mid august cactus crawls you are willing to endure.

Prime Beef and Mohunt,

Start saving money for your taxidermist and clear some wall space. Both of you are going to have great hunts. My daughter hunted on the Hand a few years ago and took a 85 2/8 net buck. Helped a good friend who drew the adjoining ranch to Brunton and he took a 89 net buck.

I have never had an Az. pronghorn tag but those two hunts were the best hunts for antelope that I have ever seen.

Enjoy yourselves

The rifle or archery tag? Congrats on one of the best antelope tags in the state!!

I ended up shooting a 73? buck on the Hand ranch in last year ?s rifle hunt. I spent two days scouting and saw a couple that may have gone a little bigger. This one called my name and I could not resist
