16D Elk Pack Out For Hire?

Any recommendations for a standby outfit to pack a bull out of 16D if I am successful on the second rifle season? I don't know NM rules on whether only a licensed outfitter/guide can do that or not, but if that is the case then obviously I am looking for someone licensed to do it. Any idea on cost? Thank you in advance.

The 2 rifle is hard in any unit. The bulls will be pushed into lots of high and hard to access places. Ive had the hunt once and there are a lot of elk but you will do better away from roads. If you need a packer call Tom Klumker with San Francisco River outfitters. He'll get u set up .

LAST EDITED ON Jul-14-17 AT 07:24AM (MST)[p]I appreciate the input. I'm not physically limited, but depending on if/when we get a bull, it may be just two of or even just me. It looks like 16D is heavily roaded, but in talking with the warden in that area he told me that a lot of roads are shut off to travel. That is a good thing as far as getting away from people and getting back to where the bigger bulls are hiding out.

I've hunted D several times, and will be hunting there in September. We've never had issues getting elk out of this unit, but I can understand the concern of tackling it on your own. My suggestion is a good frame pack and at least one buddy with another pack, but again, if you are solo, I can understand. It's a lot of critter to get out on your own, and good on you for making sure you can get it done.

Best of luck, and let us know how your hunt goes.

Thank you for the info. Being able to hunt 16D several times is amazing. I haven't heard anything bad about that unit yet. Can't wait to get down there. I have the second rifle season, so probably not the same awesome hunt that you will have in September with screaming bulls, but I imagine we will find the elk. If you don't mind messaging me some pics of the area or some pics of bulls you have taken, I'd very much appreciate it. Thank you again.
