First Bear!

I was fortunate enough to be offered a Mescelaro bear tag in transfer last week from a friend and it worked out that I could go. I love my wife for that too as she's due in just over a month with our 3rd kiddo. I told myself heading down there that I wouldn't pass a legal color phase or a large black bear. After a slow morning yesterday I moved to a different set up. After 2+ hours of rain, a big black boar snuck in before I could get out of my rain gear or get my rifle uncovered. He must have heard me or winded me as he vanished. Not a moment after I got set up in case he came back, this little color phase came in and I made a great shot. Not the biggest bear but should eat well and make a really pretty bear rug!

Very cool LT! That looks a lot like the size and color of the young nor I killed last year. I was never interested in bear hunting until I killed one and now I can't wait for the chance at another one in September.

Let me know who you decide to use for your rug work as I still have my hide and head sitting in the freezer. The wife hates that!

Imperial Taxidermy in Sante Fe. They get all of my taxidermy including everything that's coming home from Africa.

Nice. Congrats. Sorry I was misunderstood on the difference between regular and reservation hunting. But he's a beauty. Mine is at American taxidermy in abq from September last year. Should be getting it back soon. I'll let y'all know how it comes out. Rug.

No worries bud. I learned some differences between res and NM on this hunt as well. Let me know on the rug!

So, if you think you might want a full body mount, here's an idea:

I've had a lot of fun with this guy putting him on elevators for April Fools, etc. He currently guards my office--sets the right tone for meetings... ;-)

Mozey that's ****ing hilarious!!! If I had the money right now for it I woulda done that! I'll keep that in mind for the future.

How freaking Cool is that.
What does a mount like that cost if you don't mind me asking!

I totally agree with the guarding of the office entrance, puts them off their game.
Well done

Joe

That is hilarious!!

I think I want to hunt bear now just to do that...

Joe, it's been a few years but I remember it being somewhere north of $2,500. Definitely my most expensive mount to date, but also the most entertaining. Even when I'm out of the office, my employees have borrowed for their own practical jokes--it's been a pretty good team/camaraderie thing.

Very cool!

It's unfortunate that we're not allowed to take videos where I work. I would have loved to be able to post some of the reactions...

Sorry to hijack your thread, Logan. Great bear!!

LT, are you having a rug made out of your little buddy?
