Any MRGV Cranes?

I've been scouting my area of Socorro, from San Antonio up through Lemitar, and they are really slim this year. It's just too damn dry.

Anyone else hunting cranes and seeing the same thing? My plan is to hit up the Bernardo area now.

Yeah been slim pickings this year. I will be out Saturday and Sunday so will see what happens. Good luck hopefully we can get some birds!

had a friend who cleaned up on crane this year, gave me some ribeye in the sky fajitas, great eating, first time eating crane!

I had no luck hunting over decoys, but I met a couple of nice guys from ABQ to pass the time while we watched them land at off-limit farms. I had more luck getting onto them at the river near Socorro and bagged one and should have bagged 3 more but that's on me.

I just moved here so haven't figured out hunting them yet. Los Lunas area (mostly private land I think though) is loaded with em. I had good opportunities for them in TX but don't know anywhere to go here yet.

I tried Casa Colorada open gate area but nothing would land near us. My suggestion is to scout ahead of time and get permission from field owners where you actually see them. Also figure out where they roost and hunt them in the AM and PM there.

Of course this all assumes you drew for them.
