Sugarite deer

Hi Guys,
I've been looking at the Sugarite archery hunt for quite some time, but I've had a tough time finding info. Success rates look good. Just curious of the quality of deer or any other info folks might have.

I drew the first elk hunt last year and I only saw one elk. They are in there. What makes it a tough hunt is that it is a state park. I was competing with campers, hikers, dogs, etc.. High-traffic, multiple use....

That said - LOTS of deer in the park, although I've never seen any really nice bucks.

BTW - it is a tough hunt. There are trails, but if you spot and stalk, be prepared for some brutal climbs.

Thanks for the information. I've always been intrigued by this hunt (partly because its one where a non-resi has a chance to draw), but I've just never found much online.

Glad to hear at least the numbers are strong.

I'm gona put in for that one nr tag now!!!! Just kidding but ive hunted east of there near yankee and will say theres a lot of deer and if you hunt near thanksgiving you may have a chance at a whopper that was hidden in late october

Is that a good place to apply. I have camped there and stopped and showered on the way from other hunts. In the morning as we are leaving sometimes there are huge mule deer just standing by the road. I did no realize there was a non-resident hunt offered there - I assumed it since it was a state park non-residents were not allowed to hunt there. I will probably make it my third choice now.

Just kidding - it is a really nice place to camp and we do always see deer as we come and go.
