Land owner tags NM

I'm new to all of this and would like some explanation, I can't really find the information I'm looking for online so I appreciate any answers.

1. What is the minimum property required to get land owner tags? I'm looking into purchasing 40 acres to do some solar power / radio astronomy experiments and am not at the moment interested in hunting ( possibly when I get gear and develop skills )

Assuming I own the minimum property, What type of tags could I get and are these something that could be sold?

I'm originally from Colorado but am in school at New Mexico, how would owning land resident vs non resident affect land owner hunting tags?

This is something you need to talk with game and fish about. I know a few folks that have 100 acres and only get 1 elk tag so not sure if 40 acres is gonna get you much.

It's not about how much land, it's about where the land is. You need to apply with the NMG&F in the application period around February. I have several neighbors that were turned down for LO elk tags and one of them had land that backed up to the National Forrest. The LO tags aren't being given out like they once where.

It also relates to proving property (crop) damage by elk.

Not so much crop damage as it is how much does your land help elk ( water, grass, habitat etc. ) that's what G&F wanted to know. Up here in the high country there are no crops.....just grama grass, juniper trees, water tanks, ponderosa pines and a lot of fences tore up.
