Just wondering what everyone?s thoughts are on the new proposals? Game commission is voting Tuesday 22nd in Los Alamos. You can go in the NMGFD and see the new updated proposals. Seems like all hunt will take place in August and f-im hunts oct. Pronghorn will be managed like the muledeer are on private land. I'm not sure about this ide

I AGREE-BAD IDEA!!!

Antelope herd will be way worse in a few years. I have copeid my last letter to the commission below.

Dear Chairmen Kienzle and Commissioners

As you know, I am very concerned about and have asked you to vote NO on the A PLUS proposed change. From all my conversations with folks, it appears the decision has been made to go forward.

I am reaching out in one last desperate plea to ask for you to consider two potential modifications before you proceed.

1) Given the extreme drought we are in, I ask that you postpone your vote until an accurate survey of the fawn survival rate is estimated from this years does. I firmly believe we will see does sluffing off their fawns this year like know before. What could it hurt to see the results before your vote?

2) Scale back the proposal to pilot a quadrant in the state. Test the NE to see how well it works before we go head long into something that may have a detrimental effect on the great and well known world wide pronghorn herd. If it works well, go for it in the next rule cycle but let's see how it works before we dive in head first.

Again, this is a huge change from a program that has worked fairly well with the flaws it has. I still believe there is a way to provide more opportunity by adding a hunt code in each quadrant that allows folks to hunt the areas and ranches that are not signed up just like the MI, Archery, and Youth hunts now. However, for whatever reason, I know this win-win solution is not in the cards.

Thank you for reading this far.

With respect for what you do,

Jim Welles

LAST EDITED ON May-20-18 AT 09:46AM (MST)[p]The commission meeting to vote on this issue is Tuesday in Los Alamos.

I will be going to again voice my opinion.

I would highly suggest if there are any of you out there that want to voice you opinion, let the commissioners know NOW. I have most of their email addresses. If you want them, PM me between now and tomorrow evening and I will get them to you.

The antelope herd isn't going to crash because of this proposal. We only hunt bucks so the herd won't crash and all the bucks aren't going to be killed. Quality of bucks will likely go down in a lot of areas.

I don't like the unlimited private land either I think there are better choices. The system he have isn't very good either so any change might be a step in the right direction.

Muleman-

Would you be opposed to having another hunt code in areas of the state to apply for that would allow you to hunt all the areas of units not signed up in A PLUS? Right now Archery, MI, and Youth can hunt these "not" signed up areas and ranches with written permission? You could even negotiate trespass as these options do as well.

In this option there is still control over harvest on private lands and additional opportunity for those that want to hunt areas untouched by A PLUS.

What is proposed is a huge change. I'd rather go slow.

This drought will have more to do with herd reduction than hunting the bucks. Does sluffing off fawns loses recruitment for the next generation.

This is no time to nock the crap out of anything....

BTW-There are some ranches in the NE that do receive doe tags.

IMHO

There's something many people need to consider so there is a lot of landlocked public land that is inaccessible without this system areas like in the Northeast quadrant than areas and Unit 32 33 stuff like that is going to be locked up because private landowners are not going to want people to access it so we need to think about if it's really worth it to not be able to hunt these areas because many areas that are almost completely 100% private will have almost no public land to hunt

Good points on private land and access to public land.... BUT if you never draw a tag what difference dose it make ? I have drawn ONE Antelope tag in 46 years. and that was 25 years ago. Both of my kids drew youth tags back in the day... and it was a blast so lets keep the youth tags. But lets be serious your chance of a tag are almost non existent. With the BHS herd expanding it will soon be easier to draw one of those tags.

There must be some money involved!

Jimmy W. is not going to drive to Las Vegas out of the kindness in his heart for the good of antelope!

It passed, we will see how it works. According to G&F there proposal, public licenses are going to increase from this. I don't like the unlimited private land licenses but other than that I like it. There is already a lot of land locked public land that cant be hunted in deer season so its not like it will be all that different.

I have never drawn a rifle antelope tag in NM and have applied for 25ish years, anyway to add more licenses I am for

Now there will just be more landlocked public land that we can't hunt for antelope haha
