Online Only- the youth elk hunts open today AT 10 A.M.You must LOG INTO YOUR CHILDS ACCOUNT, and at 10 AM the youth hunt will open.The youth MUST have a Game Hunting license first , or the you will not be able to buy the elk hunt, and it is open for the first 14 days only to NM youth that were in the 2018 big game draw and DID NOT DRAW an elk,deer ,antelope oryx, ibex or bighorn sheep hunt.Good luck...

Daughter picked up one of the youth Nov tags in unit 36....any elk tag is a good tag !! She's been riding up in the high country with me all summer scouting hoping she would get a youth tag because we've been seeing a lot of elk.

As soon as they pass Hunter's Ed. So when they are 1 day old in theory, I suppose.

They allow the kids to do online hunter's ed at 11 now, too.

Nice! I was surprised to see they sold out so quickly for that unit and 16A and a few others. My boy got his for 16D and we're excited for his first hunt.

Well with the mentor program you can start around 9yo I believe and then I believe hunters ed starts at 10-11. With hunters ed the kids can hunt anything and with the mentor program the kids can hunt deer, javelina, turkey and small game. If I am not mistaken

My mistake. My wife corrected me. This year the kiddo can be 10yo for the mentor program and at 11yo the kiddo can take the hunter ed course. My bad. And the mentor youth program can only be used for two years before you have to take the hunter ed course.
