Hi all, does any one on here belong to Dallas Safari Club?
I notice they have a chapter in NM but I don't remember anyone posting about it.

Is it more of a high end group of people? Not saying we aren't high end people but you know what I mean.
I went to a WTF sponsor banquet and Mrs Sikora and I cleaned up. We paid next to nothing on Terry Redlin prints a goose hunt and a couple of guns. The money people weren't sending money on that stuff they just made donations in their companies names.

Thanks Joe

I haven't been to the DSC show but I have been told it's a good show. If you are looking to talk to outfitters with mid priced hunts it's better than SCI.

A booth at SCI may cost $10,000 so smaller outfitters can't afford that.I do enjoy the SCI show but don't really buy anything. There are great taxidermy displays and you can pick up a $100K double rifle and get the feel of it.

I have talked to hunters and outfitters that liked the DSC show.

Joe,
I am directly involved with the DSC New Mexico Chapter. I am currently an events coordinator for the organization. You ask, "Is it more of a high end group of people?" I'd say not high end at all, just a tad bit higher end raffle prizes and auction items. They hosted the Governor's Banquet for the Game & Fish back in February. This year on August 4th is the 2nd annual Gala & Fundraiser featuring The People's Choice Trophy Mule Deer Show, with over 50 trophy mule deer mounts to look at and vote on the winner. Voting takes place from 10am to 4pm on the same day. Admission is free to the public. There will be a few vendors, less than 20, not many outfitters this year. Check out the website for more info and also the auction list on onlinehuntingauctions.com. I am more than happy to answer anymore questions you might have.

Not sure what DSC does?

IMO the only two organizations worth joining are NRA and Safari club. They both fight at the political level for hunting, the rest of them outdoor groups are just self serving.

Everyone has the right to there own opinion. Maybe this helps you have a different one about DSC New Mexico. This is directly front DSCNM website,

To educate our youth and general public about conservation of wildlife

* To advocate, promote and protect the interest and rights of hunters and outdoor enthusiasts in New Mexico and worldwide

* To ensure that future generations will continue to enjoy our wildlife and the outdoors

This year, DSCNM will give The Philmont Scout Ranch 20% off the NET proceeds of this year's event for rebuilding from fire damage. This is a small example of what is done by DSCNM in our own state. Keep in mind, they are less than 2 years old.

Hi Benny sounds like DSC is doing some good stuff in NM.
I was checking out what I think was last years autions on their website and there was a lot of cool items, out of my price range but it's great for the people that can afford it.
I'll keep in touch

The NRA fights for hunting...hahah. Sure they do. They back the worst public land offenders in our government. The NRA is not a hunting lobbiest organization. It is a gun lobbiest organization. There is a difference.

If you aren't sure what an organization does then how can you say that the only two worth joining are SCI and NRA???

You don't know that much about NRA if you think that they are fighting for your hunting rights.

IMO the biggest difference between SCI and DSC is what happens with money raised at the local level. With DSC, the majority of money raised at the Chapter level is kept at the Chapter level for local projects (or non-local if they so choose). With SCI, most of the money goes back to the mother ship. Not saying that one is necessarily better than the other. Just different.

Well I've been involved in most all of the REMF, SCI, NRA, MDF, and DU at one time or another. I can say from my experience the two I listed is where I feel my money does the most good.

You are correct in saying NRA does not fight for hunting directly. They do fight for gun rights which I view as keeping my ability to have firearms to go hunting.

Southern NM Chapter of SCI has done more than any other sportsman groups I have been involved with when it comes to putting money locally.

Just IMO.
