Mule deer rut

interested to hear opinions on when the Mule Deer Rut starts in NM. Specifically in the central and southern half of the state.

Dec. 6th.... But don't worry the Wolves have ate most of the Bucks in southern NM.

i would agree. mid december till mid january in most areas.

Usually start seeing rutting around dec 15th in southern mountain areas, around dec 25-January 5 is usually full swing rut and tapers of after. The southern desert floors about a week later but will see rutting activities all thru January

I just didn't know if the wolves had changed the deer behavior. Cant wait to see the wolves in action. heading up to Cloud croft to watch wolves kill the last remaining deer and elk.

Wow Larry you are catching on.... That's exactly what I think. Most all of us on this site love hunting and the animals we hunt. You on the other hand want Wolves to be the hunters because you think they are cool. And don't forget the ranchers..... you don't want to step in cow chit on public land. Larry you are NOT a true NM hunter so again just go to your wolf hugger site and sing Cumbayaa... TY

I'm sorry Larry... I don't speak for everyone on this site. Just want them to know who you are. One of the leading advocates in this state for the re introduction of Wolves ie. "Wolf Hugger" and also advocate for the removal of cattle allotments that have been with NM families for generations. Don't know where you came from but I would bank on Calf. or NJ or NY a chit hole you left so you can try and turn NM into the same chit hole.
Again I'm SO SORRY if I hurt your feelings.

Yup Jack speaks similar English to most of us. We are not fans of Wolves. As for your rutting question, get out scout and inform yourself. We all know when it kicks in because we actually get out and get it done on our own.

So if I understand this correctly, LT wants to know when mule deer bucks will be in their most weakened and susceptible state, so that he can go watch one get killed by wolves?
