New to hunting

Anyone have advice on finding people to hunt with. I am just getting into hunting and I have zero experience so going alone is a bad idea. I dont have a license yet and I dont plan to get one till next year as it is so late in the season. What I would like to do is find some people to go with as a spectator/assistant.

When the proclamation comes out next year look it over and apply for a few hunts. I apply for everything except Javi and I'm lucky to draw 1 tag out of 7 apps. Welcome aboard and enjoy the outdoors.

I would recommend just talking with co-workers to determine if anyone hunts, talk to friends and see if people are interested in trying it out, just bring it up in casual conversation and see where it goes.

It might be easier to start with small game if you are going alone, try going after quail, dove, squirrels, you are bound to run into people in the field, just talk with them. See if you can make some new friends and go from there.

If you are interested in bowhunting, spend some time at your local archery ranges and talk with people, practice shooting in their indoor ranges.

In my experience, its not difficult to find people who want to go hunting, but it is difficult to find people that I enjoy hunting with. My .02

I agree, find some coworkers or other people you hang with to ask. Another option is find an older guy who hunts, they made a great mentor when I started out in your shoes 6 years ago or so.

Where do you live? What would you like to hunt? What method (bow, rifle)?

If you want a good overview, check out Rinella's complete guide to big game hunting, it is a good book that covers a lot of bases.

Thanks for the advice so far. After I posted this I remembered that I am part of a gun club so I sent out some feelers there too.

Are you in ABQ? I am helping a family that has never hunted before get started this year.

It can be daunting to figure out the application process, learn how to scout before your hunt, figure out what gear you need, and then actually hunt, and butcher an animal.

I'd be happy to help answer questions and give you ideas.

Shoot me a PM and we can exchange emails.

The son killed a pronghorn and the dad killed a cow elk, so they're buying a new freezer ;o) LOL

Let us know where you live. Every year around December I shoot off a message on Facebook offering to teach anyone to shoot and pass on what Iv'e learned about hunting. Maybe you're near Socorro?

Shoot me a PM if you want to chat. I'm about to go off on a deer hunt but have a cow elk hunt in December that you might be interested in joining for scouting?
