Hello all, I want to put both of my kids in for Barbary Sheep this year but im new to this species and have never hunted them before. Was wondering if anyone can share some pointers on a good unit to put in for. Draw vs Over the counter etc. Ive seen a few of these guys on a road trip to Roswell a few years ago was considering trying that area. Any info would be greatly appreciate.

Thank you in advance

First , have your kids hunted before? I ask because barbary sheep are extremely tough animals to hunt, the terrain and country you consistently find sheep in is very unforgiving. If your kids haven't hunted I would really consider maybe an elk deer or antelope hunt.

Now the hunt that has 32,34,36,(BBY-1-101 THRU 104)has great sheep BUT, there is alot of land either locked up or very tough access....Many great rams are killed there but it takes some learning to find your way around without having to deal with those butthole land owners!!!And theres a few of them! The hunts in 29-30 have a lot easier access in the term of not having to navigate thru so much checker board public/private, but that country is rank, BIG and DEEP canyons!!!

Hope this helps ....theres a bunch of sheep in both of those hunt choices ....

LAST EDITED ON Feb-25-19 AT 12:14PM (MST)[p]I would 2nd that it is not a good youth hunt on public land unless your kids are old enough to walk some miles. You can luck out and find an easy sheep but not very often. I call Barbary sheep hunting a "hunters hunt" because you have to hunt hard and work for them.

If you kids fit the mold then either area is good.

Some of the private land hunts are easy hunts but you have to pay to play.

thank you both for your replies, Greatly appreciate the advice. Yes both of my kids have hunted both Deer and Elk, unfortunately none of us have ever drawn an Antelope tag but hopefully this year. im fascinated with Barbary and Ibex but the terrain for Ibex is unreal I give people a lot of credit that are able to harvest those animals. Again thank you for the comments, ill definitely do some more research before we make any decision to hunt these amazing animals

thank you
