If there are 5 tags...

The new antelope system is a little tricky in my opinion.

If a unit has five tags does anyone know how they are divided between resident, non-resident, and outfitter. I would assume 3-1-1?

This system also makes it very hard for non-residents to apply in groups or even pairs. If a unit has 10 tags how are they divided 8-1-1?

I think the worst part of this is that it makes it really hard for non-residents to apply as a pair or group. Antelope was the only species we applied in pairs or groups.

Anyone have any insight into these topics or other aspects of the antelope draw?

Thank You.

I don't think so, pretty sure all 5 tags would go to residents. Law is that 84% must go to residents. 84% of 5 is 4.2, so all would go to residents since there isn't a full tag left over.

This was a big issue with the Bighorn tags, so that's why they combined all the hunts codes to have a bigger pool of tags. (Rocky Mountain is 1 hunt code, Desert is 1 hunt code)

Not real sure. I know there isn't a diy non rez tag with 5. But there may be an outfitter welfare tag. 10% of 5 is .5 which will round up to one. But for sure not a diy tag. I know at 10 tags it is 8-1-1

I emailed them and they divide the total by the NR quota and round accordingly.

5 tags should not result in a NR drawn.

After looking through all the draw reports here is how it looks to work.

New Mexico rounds to the nearest whole number.

So the unit needs to have 5 tags for an outfitter tag to be available. 0.10 x 5 = 0.50 (rounded up equals 1)

The unit needs to have 9 tags for an NR tag to be available. 0.06 x 9 = 0.54 (rounded up equals 1)

At least that's what I'm seeing for who actually got tags in the actual draw last year.

Thanks everyone. I never thought to look at the draw results and find a 5 tag unit from last year.

We checked into this. If there is 5 tags in a hunt they round up as was said early. What they do is draw a 6th tag in order to fill the outfitter pool which could be resident or non resident. Likely a non resident since that's what mostly apply with outfitters.

Its the only way the math works to follow the quota law as it was explained to me. The non resident un-guided 6% pool will never be drawn in a hunt with 5 tags
