LAST EDITED ON Sep-08-15 AT 02:02PM (MST)[p]I have a 24-1 elk tag and am very excited to start chasing them around this weekend. I'm looking for advice on a camping spot as well as any other info people with experience have had hunting this unit. Are the elk very vocal yet? It will be my 4th trip hunting Wyoming but first for elk and first on 24. I know these posts can get annoying but any help is appreciated.

Elk can be located from the top of the mountain to the bottom so don't limit yourself to one particular area. In my experience, next week towards the middle to the end should be the best, good luck!

LAST EDITED ON Sep-09-15 AT 02:52PM (MST)[p]I would suggest you get a good map of the unit, make sure it is a new copy because they changed the boundary to include a bunch more desert ground. cover a bunch of country until you find a good bull and then make it happen. from what I have seen/heard the bow can be great or not so great. give it heck with a bow and have a game plan to wack a good bull opening morning before they get pushed around. make sure to share your hunt with us so we can enjoy it with you. I found most of my elk in an out of the way area and did not have a lot/any competition. think outside the box

Elk were scattered up and down the mountain when I had the tag. I had a 61 antelope tag the same year. For part of the season I was archery elk hunting in the morning and rifle hunting goats during the day. I saw elk several times out in the sage a long ways from the mountain. I would stay away from Crooks Mtn. It was more over pressured than Green...

We had a great hunt! I was able to connect on this great bull on the last day of a five day hunt. We could get them to respond to calls but I don't think the rut had really started yet, this bull is the exception he came into bow range because he liked my cow call and my new lucky Wyoming hat. Thanks for all the help MM friends.

Greetings Triple, hoping you wouldn't mind sharing a bit about your hunt. I'm a NM guy and it a long haul to Wyo so brainstorming about doing the same plan as you did ( 24 Elk and 61 Antelope) if you get a free couple of minutes please give me a call. Jim Brown 505.269.8911. Thx in advance .
