My hunting buddy & I will be heading over to hunt Speed Goats in September. We will be staying in Powell. Anybody have a recommendation of a good place to have our meat processed? We prefer to have it vacum sealed if possible. Conversely, any places to avoid?

Thank You :)

LAST EDITED ON Jul-05-16 AT 10:49PM (MST)[p]We got Rogers meat processing here in powell..

zero box in cody which is 22 miles away.

custom meats in byron which is 10-12 miles away.

I have used zero box and rogers and had no issues. But last few years I do my own.

I would call and make sure rogers still does wild game.. zero box quit doing wild game years ago but started doing it again last couple years..

If you have any questions about powell just send me a PM

Rodgers doesn't do wild game anymore from what I heard. There is Waglers Meats too. Save yourself some a lot of money and just debone it right away and finish it when you get home. Also some places charge more if there busy and you want it expedited.

There are a lot of places here in California that stopped processing wild game but that really surprises me that butchers up in that area would stop. Seems like it would be a huge lose of income with all the hunting in those areas. What is there reason for stopping ?

The.reason is they make more money on pig and beef. You cant do wild game and domestic at same time. When you switch from.domestic to wild game and back to domestic the.cleaning process is a pain.

Back in.2005 I worked for a meat proccessor after.school and this is what we delt with.

Rogers won't do game anymore. Zero Box charges Cody prices for what they do. Locals know what I mean. I have used 4th Street Meats in Red Lodge, Montana. That may be a little out of your way. They make incredible sausage. I like the Red Hots and their Jalapeno Cheddar.

We may be staying for up to 6 days because we also have doe tags so I don't think we could wait until we get home to process it ourselves.

Thank you for the responses. We should be able to find a good butcher from the suggestions given. :)

Six days is no big deal as long as you get them taken care of and on ice ASAP and keep them that way until going home.
