Wyoming Deer Unit 36 Information

Good Morning All,

My brother and I picked up a couple left over tags for this unit. This will be our 3rd time out to the state and have had great luck and times thus far. This is our first time in this area of the state and was wondering if any of you here could help out.

1. I understand that deer density is low in the unit but can any of you give me an realistic information to this?

2. Are there decent areas along the roads to set up camp for a week?

3. Are there any predators in the area that we need to be mindful of? How about snakes?

4. How is the coyote population? We love calling song dogs.

5. What can I expect for weather in the area the second half of October?

We plan on hunting towards the northern part of the unit as that where it looks like the terrain is more rugged and more acceptable deer country. We'll climb to tops of ridges and sit behind the optics all day if need be. I've got calls into the Wildlife Biologist and the Game Warden for the area as well. Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

That is a long way out of my stomping grounds, but I think you'll find a few roads. I think that area is more popular for antelope, so maybe some of the guys who hunt goats over there will have input. As far as the weather goes... In October, in Wyoming, early or late, always be prepared for rain and snow. Chains for the truck, as well as a couple of tow straps, a widow maker,etc... If you have an ATV, you may want it as your go around vehicle.

Good luck, as there are very few deer in that unit and that's why they finally made it LQ this year after many years with a short season and restricted to 3 point or better bucks on the M tag.

Thanks. We'll be out there regardless. It looks like it has some terrain that would fit deer well. Has the unit always been poor or has something happened in the last decade to hurt the population?

I talked to the warden last year. About this same unit. He talked me out of it. They told me then it was going draw. Pretty sure there is a couple more units going that way...If U hunt hard U will find them. I have seen sum nice deer crossing 26 out there....
