I just thought that a lot of you non resident region H hunters would like to know that there is a large fire currently burning in Bondurant. Here is the link to the page:
http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/4865/
It started near the highway at the mouth of Cliff creek and has now burnt all the way through shoal creek, riling draw, deer ridge, and is in Dell creek now. You may want to adjust your hunting plans accordingly.

I think that the 141 tag holders may have to deal with some smoke but I seriously doubt that the fire will make it that far. I was finally lucky enough to draw the 141 deer and 93 elk in the same year so it should be an epic year. They just extended the area closure to include everything as far south as Jack creek (boarder of 141 between pass peak and hodges peak) but that is it so far. I am heading up into that area today to set my trail cams so hopefully it isn't too bad.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-27-16 AT 07:57AM (MST)[p]The fire has only been burning for a week and half and is already at 17,000 acres. If they allow it to burn until the snow flies, it's going to eat up a lot of country before it's done. I hope they get it taken care of soon for your sake and it doesn't ruin your hunt. You have a good tag and I hope you shoot a giant. It might even push more animals into that country. Good luck let us know how you do.

Fire may be a problem in the short run for a hunter this year in H. In the alternative, fire in beetle killed pine and deadfall can be a great thing for habitat in the future. My all time favorite mule deer spots are in areas of old burns.

just sayin...mh

Couldn't agree with you more. Elk hunting burns aren't too bad either. Plus, a few of those areas being burnt are deep, dark timber. After a year or two the glassing will be much better.
