Rifle in Truck During Archery Season

LAST EDITED ON Sep-15-16 AT 02:36PM (MST)[p]Hi All,

Quick question on something I'm having trouble finding in the regs.

We are heading up next week from TX to hunt from the 9/25 to 10/1. We plan on hunting archery but would like to rifle hunt the morning of the 1st if we have not tagged out. We will be car camping and hunting out of the truck as we've got pretty good access where we're at.

Is it a problem to be in possession of a rifle (meaning to have one in the truck) during the archery season? It's a bit far to drive home and then back with a rifle, but I'd hate to leave the rifle and miss out on hunting the last day if I don't need to.

Thanks!

You can have your rifle with you. Heck, you could even carry it before the first. You just can't shoot a deer with it until a half hour before official sunrise on 10/1.

Sweet.

That was actually my plan but I didn't want to come out and say it as I thought people might laugh at me. ;)

Thanks for the help! Will post up some pics when we get back. First archery hunt so looking forward to getting out there with the bow and chasing some elk (cows) around. Hopefully it doesn't come down to taking the rifle out on Saturday but will be nice to have the backup option if needed.

Cheers.

That's totally legal but you'll need to be far more skilled than I to pull that off with success! LOL
