Target shooting NF Dec.?

We fly into Jackson mid December and I am trying to figure out a place to make sure our guns are on. Local range not open while we are there. From memory nearby NF was closed to all activity. Is there any public land we can shoot at?

Not sure why the National Forest would be closed. Call the office and see. It may be just one section.

Thanks I am guessing it was because of the 1000 - 2000 elk bedding right there on it that one person could have easily pushed into firing line on elk refuge! I just figured it was typical since I am not in WY that late normally. Winter range, etc.

Depends on the date you get there if forest is closed yet. Find some state land or drive away from Jackson just a bit to find some open forest service land.Elk hunt I assume, grizz may be still active until the refuge elk hunt is over. Good luck!

I found out area closest to jackson closes Dec 1. Also Dec 15th I think the area 1/2 hour away closes so when my friend and I come back in Mid Jan we are out of luck, no nearby NF will be open! Ideas?

I have a metal gun case that I use for flying and never once has my gun been out of zero.

Can you shoot on the refuge? Seems like you can hunt there you could set up and take a shot or two.

Can't target shoot on the refuge, I have a spot that should still be ok by then, might have to wade a little snow, but legal and easy enough to get 100yds plus.

On another thread he was asking if anyone has ever had a bad experience using a golf club case to transport multiple guns on an airplane. I think he is going to need to check his zero.

However, if he goes the golf club case route I bet Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis club would let him target shoot.
