i have 6 preference points and have been trying to draw 38. i always apply in special draw but i guess point creep or bad luck is getting me. can i draw any decent units with six points. bow, rifle, late season? which time of year, choice of weapon, unit would give me the best opportunity at a good six point (300 class) . i have a flexible schedule but i do have to come a long ways (louisiana) so i don't want to waste six points. i dontcare to be led around by a guide. i have always hunted diy. is unit 45 worth six points? i have always enjoyed late sept early oct hunts the most because of the bugling, but i thought you guys would know better than me which unit and time of year would give the best overall experience. thanks preston

Yes, unit 45 is worth 6 points but you will need 8 points in the special draw to get the tag. Good luck!!

You won't come close in the PP draws to get a unit 45 tag and would have to luck out in the random draw, but you might want to look at 40 and 41 to the north of it to draw either of those with your 6PPs. 40 has the Type 9 archery tag good for the entire month and it doesn't allow the Type 1 tags to hunt until rifle season in October. Unit 41 has the same 30 day September Type 9 season, but does allow the Type 1 tag holders to buy an archery permit to hunt the last half of September. Thus, a lot more hunters would probably be in that unit after 9/14. IMHO both those units would be pretty good for what you are asking.
