Didn't want to highjack another fellas post on same topic, but have a question or two for those with experience in the unit. Mostly looking info on where to setup my base camp. Was planning on the BLM campground and don't know if there are other open camp areas along access roads. Would like to be as central in the unit as possible. Camp vehicle is cabover camper on Super Duty and in tow with either my Jeep or Polaris on a trailer. Which would be recommended for a get-around vehicle, Polaris or Jeep? I understand the roads are rough. Planning on hunting last couple weeks of archery and prepared to stay into rifle season if necessary.

Thanks in advance!

Just spent a couple of days in the area. I thought we had rough roads in Nevada, but we don't have anything on some of those roads in 24. I reccommend a side by side or quad. I will definitely take my side by side on my next scouting trip and for the hunt.

That's a hard unit to draw for a non res,I have 10 points and looking for a good archery unit.

I'm with DoubleU and Shedneck - I drew this same tag. Any pictures/video/insight would be greatly appreciated.

I spoke with the biologist and the warden for the area (both really nice) already and got similar reports. The herd is healthy with lots "cookie-cutter 5x5's" running around, but it'll take a little extra work to find the big bulls. They mentioned how rain/moisture can play a big role - expect to take lots of water in, and if water is scarce it'll be really easy to pattern the elk.

For you guys that have been there already, was it still pretty green or did you get any rain while you were there? I know some big rain storms moved through eastern Wyoming this past week, just not sure if Green Mountain got any. Also, beware that a drill rig is going in to the unit sometime in August.

I know the tag allotment for this year (150) is a lot lower than years past (200-250). Anything I can do to help other with this tag I'm happy to share - I'd love to see us all harvest some monsters.
