Another Tough Winter Post

Just read an article that stated on the Northwestern/Western half of the State all fawns with radio collars have died and 25% of adult does are dead...sounds brutal. I thought Southern Idaho was really bad, I haven't seen as many dead fawns/does laying on the hills like this ever in Idaho.

I''ve been trying to be positive about the whole deal, but it's time to be honest, I'm saving my Non-res points for years down the road.

A good summary of real possibilities. I wonder how many deer were collared. Game and Fish is pretty good in their research, but the collaring of deer is usually limited and for the purpose of tracking movement. The information is important, but the sample size may be a bit small to generalize at this early date. I frankly have been surprised at how many fawns I've seen with the does in the Star Valley and Kemmerer area. I expect we will have a large loss out here in the west, but it is premature to draw conclusions as to what the total damage is.

I'm not seeing anything to tell me "conclusions" have been drawn yet. The use of the word "may" seems to be prevalent in all information and articles I am reading. I think it's very clear though, it's been a bad winter for wildlife in western Wyoming.

Here around Cokeville i believe they had around 63 fawns collared. Not one survived.Too bad.

I agree that it was a rough winter and I expect some serious damage to populations. Hopefully, pockets of deer came out okay, rather than a whole sale winter slaughter.
