Preference points

I am a non Wyoming resident and was wondering how many points it takes to draw into a fairly good unit....I know nothing about Wyoming....right now I have 7 non resident points for mule deer. Any info would be appreciated ...not wanting to know your "honey hole"....just maybe the amount of points and two or three unit recommendations! Thanks! Not planning on a Wyoming mule deer hunt till 2018 or 2019

All you need to do to at least partially answer your question is to go onto the G&F website and look at the draw odds to see how many PPs it takes to draw the various LQ and Region deer tags as of last season (2016). Then figure that with the bad winter in the western part of the state and resultant tag cuts along with point creep that it will go up from there as each year passes that you don't actually apply and draw your tag.

Did you do as I indicated in my other post? Generally the longer you wait to apply for a good tag the more PPs it takes to draw it due to PP creep, possible tag cuts due to bad weather, etc. 7PPs should draw a decent unit now, but possibly not as good if you don't plan on going for another year or two and you don't keep buying points.

What type of hunt are you looking for?
Do you want to back pack or ride horses into the back country?
Are you looking for a hunt where you can drive around and glass big sage brush country?
Wyoming has some excellent options for the points you have.
Wyoming game and fish department doesn't manage for trophy mule deer.
Wyoming manages for opportunity.
Some private landowners manage for trophy bucks.
The big public land trophy bucks live in steep rugged country or areas with thick cover, which can be quakies pines or sage. Good luck with your hunt. [font face="verdana" color="green"]

Wyomimg also has a few areas that are later in the season and catch the beginning or most of the rut.

7 points is plenty good enough to get into a good unit. Look at the draw odds on the Wyoming Game & Fish website. Go to hunt planner , select species , then select an area , lastly click on detailed info and draw odds. Good luck.

Looking for 180 plus buck...public land....I like hunting sage and aspens....any info be helpful ...thanks

Is that all and on public land, LOL! I hope you realize there aren't that many 180" bucks anywhere nowadays and if that's what it takes to make you happy I'd suggest you start looking for a guided hunt on a private ranch!

Some of the LQ areas in the South central part of the state have some great bucks coming out of them now. They are NF and public land hunts. Don't need to go guided or private to find a 180 buck. Some areas are really coming on with road closures and limited tags.
