Wyoming range mortalities- fawns and older bucks

Now wait a minute. There were 77 fawns collared in 2016. Half of them died from Predation; disease; and other unknown causes. That leaves 38 collard fawns. 1 is still alive so far. So that leaves 38 winter kill.

Sounds pretty dire!
The population will feel the impact for many years to come!
Mother Nature can be a tough bitty!

Sounds like what some of the locals have said. Terrible winter for deer in western WY. Fawns for the most part are dead. Most of older bucks 6 plus years dead.

Lots of people sitting on points not knowing what to do?

LAST EDITED ON Mar-27-17 AT 02:13PM (MST)[p]It will still be good hunting and there will be some great bucks the next few years. Just like there was after 2011. A few years from now there will be a noticeable gap. I'm excited to see if the giant bucks I was hunting last year survived. I'm betting yes. Luckily I helped one of them stay warm and not have to worry about the long, cold, winter. :)

Looks like Gohunt revised their article. Interesting.....

Update 3/26/17: the original 60% number I received mentioned bucks and that number was discussed in the evening of the commission meetings. I got this number from a friend of mine that is a Wyoming biologist. I did find this number to be very high, and I double checked with my source that they were referring to bucks. It came to my attention that the number is referring to does. I strive for accuracy in all of my articles, so I want to thank certain individuals for sending me the report.
