I finally cashed in my points this year and will be headed to Unit 30. I'm wondering if anyone has hunted this unit recently that may have some helpful information. I couldn't find much information using the search function.

Thanks

There were only 40 bull tags and 30 cow tags issued for that entire unit in 2016, so it's probable that nobody that regularly visits this forum has hunted it for elk to give you any help. Good luck on your hunt!

Unit 30 is "Aspen Mtn"
Unit 31 is southwest of 30 and called "Little Mtn"
Unit 32 is southeast of 30 and east of 31 and called "Pine Mtn"

Good luck on the hunt.

I drew this tag as a non res about 9 years ago & hunted it staying in a Rock springs motel. One of the best places I found is named Faulkner Canyon in the s w part of the unit . Very accessible but easy to miss. The elk come out of unit 31 to the south usually way before daylight , then come up to the to top of the canyon heading north. You have to be in a good position way before daylight . Also the canyons just to the west of Faulkner are good to watch & checkout --- just do not hesitate to pull the trigger, elk constantly on the move !! You will need the Firehole Canyon maps from B L M. The roads when wet can be really slimy, slippery, & yet full of sharp rocks too-- I had numerous flats. Beware ! The elk were bugling big time early in the season. Best bulls we saw coming out of 31 were est. At 340 plus. Best bulls we saw in 30 were about the same, but moving thru from 31. Hope this helps !
