Unit 34?

Would be interesting to see the data they used to make their determination. I've hunted 34 quite a bit in the last 6 years. I know of one 190 class buck last season that was on private property and the landowner wouldn't consider a trespass fee or anything else. I was unimpressed with all the small 4 pts and average 3 pts we saw last season. Its definitely not in the same class as 89, 90 or G...

From a couple years ago in 34

There are some good bucks in that unit just like the picture jm77 posted. However, I hunt near there and no way would I put it even close to a blue unit. IMHO Eastmans sucks and their MRS has so many errors in it that it's laughable!

+1

I'd consider some other units over 34 if I was looking to burn very many points...

LAST EDITED ON May-10-17 AT 08:01AM (MST)[p]Yeah if it were me I would listen to a couple guys ^^^^ who go guided in G. Resident odds in 2016 were 16% in 34...

Enough said on this subject.

I agree 100% Eastmans has gone way down hill! The MRS is just a laughing stock! I got an Epic subscription this year and comparing the two is an insult to Epic!

Is this enough 34 bucks for you? Now make sure your outfitter gets the deposit. Wouldn't want to miss out on your guided hunt this year. :)

Hey D-Bag, how many years worth of 34 bucks is that? There's always a few pics of good deer coming out of all the limited quota areas in central Wyoming. Nothing to get yer panties wadded up over...

Those are some nice bucks.

Not sure what a blue chip is but looks like fun terrain to go hunt in.

Resident of wyo going guided in his own state? Weak Sauce.

I am not trying to defend Eastman's top picks, I don't even know what their criteria is for a "Blue Chip" area and couldn't care less.

It is funny to see ole Triple lose his cool, but what else is new. He's just trying to get everyone to stay away from his hometown area. I wonder which local Casper outfitter he uses when he draws 34?

Those are some sweet bucks there JM77!!!!!

If you don't mind me asking are those the typy of bucks you see a good amount of or would you say that is the top end of what you usually see each year? Just curious is all. It goes without saying you and your hunting partnesr must hunt the area pretty hard, and that is what I like to base how I feel an area truly is represented, is by the people that know the area well and really get after it.

Those are top end bucks, but there are more than a few every year.

we hunted the unit several years ago. We found quite a few deer, a lot of bucks. Several of the bucks were very nice, and we did glass one no brainer type deer on the second day of the hunt. We never did turn him back up and went home empty handed. There are nice deer every where in Wyoming, you just need to hunt them! Ive never had a good buck handed to me because I was in a certain unit. You have to work for them!

Hunted it last year. 2 weeks with bow and the entire rifle season, is it worth 6+ points required to draw....not NO but Hell NO!!! I pulled a random tag and would never burn half that in points. Never saw a buck that would break 170" and not many over 150".

Well then if 34 isn't worth My 8 points. Where can a 61 year old get around fairly easy. I'M in pretty good shape. Thanks in advance.....BULL!

Well, I hope to draw it this year and plan on having a fun hunt. I hunt antelope near by and really like the looks of 34. Regardless of what Eastmans says, pretty sure I'll have a good hunt!!

Spent about a week in the area hunting antelope last October and saw plenty of deer, October 7-13. At least in the flatter portions of the unit, they seemed to be congregated in the creek bottoms or tucked up against smaller 1/4, 1/2 sections of private land w/ water sources. We saw a few decent bucks (plenty like above) but can't say any would have broken the 150" mark. That said, we were speedgoat hunting, not focused on deer.

Did talk to a few elk hunters back in Casper who had been hunting just west of Deadman's Butte in more broken country. They saw a couple bucks they claimed were in the 160" range. They had a nice 6x bull taken from further up the scenic loop in the NW corner of the unit.

In my opinion, those are some great bucks for a unit that you can draw with 8 points!

I would agree with Triple B that the Eastman's MRS is very weak, the typo's, grammatical errors, and misspellings alone were embarrassing and I read the whole book in an evening and didn't really learn anything new. Huntin Fool is the same old stuff also it seems (although I met the new CEO recently and he has some good ideas for the direction of the magazine), I haven't checked out Epic Outdoors, anyone? I am not looking for application service, just current information on units and current draw odds, ogle at some gaggers, maybe a good landowner tag one day, etc.

I suspect significant point creep will happen to this unit now. All it takes is Eastmans or any other magazine to highly rank a unit, plus a few forum posts like this one (pictures of big bucks help) and BAM, instant 1-2 point surge!

I think the sleeper here (aside from an easier to draw awesome lope permit in the same place) is the whitetail hunting that goes to Nov 30th. Wow. 34-3 is a certain draw for non-residents, and would be a hell of a combo hunt with antelope.

Seriously Spaz??!! I hunted the unit last year and saw a total of 0 whitetail deer. There?s a reason you can draw the whitetail tag so easily cause there ain?t nothin there.

LAST EDITED ON May-21-18 AT 02:50PM (MST)[p]My only question is this the year it turns into a max points unit?

Its headed that way due to all the hype.

I guess I will ask also is there any properties you can pay to ply unguided? Thanks in advance. I will be 62 next week, so this will be my last WYO. Deer hunt. Still have 10 Elk points for next year then done. Will stick To home AZ. and N.Mexico if can get drawn.........Thanks...........BULL!

I'll be in that unit elk hunting from the 8th-18th of this month. If you will PM me your email or Phone # I'll give you any info I have on the trip home.

I hunted 34 in 2011 and I thought it was a good unit. We seen lots of deer and both my buddy and I shot average bucks. I would hunt it again but I wouldn't use 9pp on it.
