So are these the first?

I actually saw a 12 year old girl who managed to get one before I saw this picture come through.

I believe she was the first.

A semi load of dead wolves would make me grin from ear to ear. but I wish people would go at it like it was still illegal and lay low.

If you want to get wolf hunting stopped post pictures and brag about it. battles are being won, the war is far from over.

AMEN!!

LAST EDITED ON May-16-17 AT 04:06PM (MST)[p]So when did the USFWS delist them and when did Wyoming G&F start allowing them to be shot as predators in most of the state? The last I heard they were still listed even though the court ruling was favorable and allows their delisting. However, until then and whenever Wyoming takes over again to the best of my knowledge they are off limits right now. There is nothing on the G&F website that I could find other than the court ruling and saying they are still listed under the ESA.

They were delisted about 3 weeks ago Mike. Predator season open. Trophy areas this fall.

The enviro's should be happy as this is a testiment to the success of their beloved Endangered Species Act. Now the control is given to the state and sportspersons to manage and put our dollars toward for the conservation of this predator.

"Courage is being scared to death but
saddling up anyway."

There have been numerous shot in the western predator zone already since it has become Legal. Its about damn time!

T, I agree with you about dead wolves. And to be honest, I do the same when I kill a deer, antelope or an elk. I don't display it, or let it show in the back of my truck, if possible, because I worry about the negative feelings it creates with non-hunters and others. A dead animal, of any kind, with eyes glazed over and sunken, with tongues hanging out is unnecessary and insensitive, in these politically correct times.

I see deceased horses, cows and sheep in the back of farm trucks, headed for our county landfill, all the time. The public doesn't seem to have any problems with those images. Of course this is a rural area, I suppose, if you hauled one down State Street in Salt Lake, you might get some blow back.

However.................I wonder, if keeping the reality of killing animals out of sight and removed from the eyes of the public is not playing into more misunderstanding intolerance of the hunting lifestyle, and the more we avoid the reality of what we are doing, the more unacceptable it looks. It may be assumed we are ashamed of our actions, to those that are critical of our lifestyle. If hunting is moral and honorable, as we believe it is, should we be keeping a trap over it, or should we be confronting the misguided hostility toward it and put it on the front page of the Sports Section of the local news paper, like we did back in the 50 and 60, before we started pandering to the anti-hunting, anti-meat eating movement. I wonder if the pandering has turned to empowerment.

Some times I fear we are doing ourselves more harm than good, by avoiding the confrontation.

I'd like to know what you think, beyond your initial comment.

Kinda like cavein to the establishment moderates and pandering to them and the independents cause they tell us that's the only way we can win. I'm getting to the age when I care less what others think of me and my views. Maybe if we properly put it out there for the world to see we'd gain more of em than we think.

The reason I say this on wolves is because I've been there done that. in 1994 the anti hunting groups descended on Oregon and successfully banned hunting bear and lion with hounds. one of the major tools they used was tv ads showing legal hunters shooting cats and bear out of trees. some landed in the water, blood flowing downstream. multiple shots. laughing and high fives. it didn't look good , and it worked.

The wolf wars are far from over. kill as many as you can where you can and play it cool, grand standing only incites the opposition. and they still have as many teeth as the wolves do.

Any word on available wolf tags for non-residents this fall? What is the cost and can they be purchased OTC or draw only?
Is the nonres restricted to national forest only?
Any info appreciated. Thanks.

Yes there will be tags for sale OTC this fall for the quota zones, but anything in the predator areas requires no license. And i would expect that non-res is required to abide by the current laws regarding all big game hunting as wolves will be treated just like an elk or deer tag in the quota zones except you will have to check them in and report info within 10 days to game and fish

They are a trophy animal, not like elk and deer; each license valid in any open area. More importantly, you will have to check mortality quotas and season closures by area.

Can't find it on G&F site.
Are they available online or do I have to call or wait till fall, etc.. ?
Any one know the cost for non res.?

Yes about time!! I see they are showing Oct 1st as the opening day in the trophy areas dang it . I'll be up there hunting sheep 1st of sept and was hoping to have a chance at a dog also. Guess I can get the sheep out if the way and try for the big bad wolf closer to home. Congrats to those that have scored in the predator areas!!!!

I'll be hunting elk in the trophy zone around the Beartooths in October.
Hope I can get a tag.
I am told lots of wolf sightings near the park border, but that is wilderness. Sure they run all over the area looking for carcasses though.
Thanks for posting the heads up guys!
