Looking for ideas on deer for 2018 to get the most bang for our points. Depending on how many of us put in together we will have 7.25 with 3 guys or 9 points with 4 guys. We had originally planned on G but are now exploring different options with the way this past winter was. We would be willing to pay special money for a good quality hunt. We also are looking for 170+ bucks. I have looked at the draw odds from 2016 and 34 and 89 seem the most interesting so far. We are still not sure if we will totally drop G just curious if we could get something comparable with our points and the condition G seems to be in since the winter kill.

Assuming you are going to hunt accessible public, Region G (winter kill notwithstanding) will undoubtedly provide more opps for 170"+ bucks than Unit 34.

I'm sure others can speak to Unit 89, but 170" is a realistic top-end goal for Unit 34 even for 1 guy hunting hard on 1 tag for a week or week and a half...let alone 3 or 4 tags in the party.

It's the Region G hunts in 2020-2022 that I'd be most worried about. An entire cohort will basically be missing.

If it were me, I'd wait till April 1 2018 to start planning. Just to see what the winter is, and the draw odds from this year.

We figured we wouldn't really be able to plan too much right now, especially with how much draw odds may change with the tag cut in region G and how everyone decides to play it with the winter kill. We were mostly just looking to see what other options we had besides G for a decent hunt, and how something else would compare to G in the condition it is in now.
