Gas and oil wells

Went out this weekend and took a look at where my son will be hunting antelope this fall. There were a lot of gas wells around which sparked me to look at the Wyoming regulations and the distance from which you must be to shoot bigame.

I did a quick search and have not been able to locate anyting that stipulates distance from stuctures, dwellings etc. Am I just not looking in the right place? can somebody point me in the right direction. Thanks

I work and hunt in the same oil field. We hunt right next to the Wells. We just ask people watch the direction your shooting. Another oil company has a sign saying 500 yards from buildings but nothing about wells. I would call and ask the company if they say no hunting don't fall for it cause they sometimes say that cause they hunt it for themselves

If it's public land there are no rules but safety and common sense. On some HMAs and walk in areas, there may be specific rules about distance. On private it is up to landowner of course.

Who cares what the oil/gas company says. 99% of the time they don't own the land the wells are on. Just be safe and know your back drop. Piss on what the oil and gas companies say.

most of the wells have nice ladders to a platform on the top, which makes for great glassing.

I was under the impression that climbing on to the gas and oil companies equipment was at least frowned upon, if not prohibited. But, I guess it may vary from company to company.

Thanks for the info guys. I certainly am aware of the safety aspects which is one reason I thought there would be something specified. One of the things I have learned through the years is that common sense is not common. But it is nice to know that there is still something to be said for personal responsibility.

And depending if the field has h2s; it could also be very deadly.
Best to stay off of locations and away from all tanks and equipment. Each location will have legal description tho if you want to check that you are on public or private
