I'm thinking about cashing in my elk points for next year and I was wondering if anyone on here has hunted in unit 38? Is it worth the points or should I look into another unit, also should I try for the type 9 tag or just type 1 and buy the archery permit ? Thanks for any info

So I looked at it in the book. The way I reed it is you can't hunt at all in the archery season in 38 with a type 1 tag. Is this correct ?

That is correct.

38 is either type 1 or type 9. I hunted 38 last year type 9. great hunt and well with the 9 NR points I had. Was into elk every day I hunted. I understand that an early winter could hamper the Type 1 hunt.

Was planning on trying to hunt it looks like I'm a long ways away if it takes nine points last year

38 is a type 9 archery. You can't do both. 23% success on bulls. That is all bulls so lower success on mature animals. With that being said it is a great unit with no grizzles or wilderness to hold you back.
