I have 9 antelope points

My question is what do you guys think the best Antelope unit in the state is and how many points does it take to draw that unit.

I have some points to burn next year and was just wondering how many points it would take to get a great unit.

I have hunted Wyoming many times for antelope over the last 40 years. I lived there from '07--'16 in Cheyenne. My vote for best areas is following : 60, 114, 61. It will take you 10--12 points to draw as a non resident. I never could draw 114 or 61 as a resident or non resident either. I drew 60 some years ago as a non resident & hunted it hard-- it is a great trophy area but that year I just could not find the monster I wanted so I ate the tag. But it has it all including remoteness & great genetics too. B & C bucks regularly come out of 60. If you go that way & choose 60, I can give you exact help on areas to look & you mostly will have the unit to yourself after first 3 days. It is a huge unit, incredibly remote areas, few tags , great genetics, a wild place where many antelope grow old & die & no one sees them. I really like that unit-- my kind of place-- I am a trophy antelope fanatic. But I likely will never get the chance to draw it again because I moved last year to Ft Collins, Co. & starting just now on points in Wyoming. Glad to help you if you need it on 60.

Even units that are considered the very best in Wyo may not produce B&C in any given year. As examples, factors such as winterkill and moisture play an important roles. You may wait 12 years for a premium unit tag...draw in a year that doesn't produce...and be somewhat screwed! I've found that it is important to keep tabs on a number of key factors for figuring out where the best potential for B&C bucks is in any given year.

Thanks Jerry I appreciate the help. it appears though that I have a couple more years to get the tag that you are talking about.

I would like to shoot a B&C buck but I am not caught up in the score. I personally like character over score something different.

Sure-- I will be happy to help you out-- next year &/or any year. Put in for 60, & hope for luck-- Put in for Pref Ponts Special License. Someone might deceide to not put in next year, it could happen, you never know. When you draw 60 & hunt it, it will overwhelm you with the quiet & remoteness !'

What I have come to understand in WY is of the better units how hard they are to draw has more to do with how much public land there is than anything else.

With 9 points I'd try to draw whatever tag I thought 9 points should draw. if you don't draw it try again next year. that's better than settling for a tag where finding a place to hunt without 500 other guys is a struggle.
