Bear Attack Story

Congrats to Mr. Sheets. He has my respect and admiration.

And I can't wait for the day we hunters start teaching those griz a lesson with a hunting season for them.

And if there were a vote, I'd say all griz mauling victims should get preference in the license drawing. They've paid their dues.

don't forget a off duty game warden shot a griz during hunting season after a bad conflict. DCI is investigating which he will get off.

Then the 2 bears shot on the north fork after getting on the hunters elk. Its been another rough year of them bears getting to aggressive.

I was flipping channels and Wyoming worthless news station from casper had some idiot saying some off the wall crap how the bear numbers are to low. just another reason why I don't watch any news and once again wasted my time watching that for 20 seconds.

I heard a grizzly was shot and killed in late Oct or early Nov with a .22 short in a camp, near a trailhead, in elk area 54. The word is the shooter is up on charges because the bear was shot in the side.

jm77,
I hadn't heard that and I don't remember reading anything about it. It wouldn't surprise me if it happened. The bears are active in 54 well into November. The G&F have seldom charged anybody for these type of incidents. The last time was a few years ago on the North Fork of the Shoshone. A G&F bear biologist shot one mistaking it for a black bear that he had a tag for. I will keep my ears open for any other information. There would be a little irony in all this if the warden, Chris Queen, were the person investigating the case. He shot and killed a sow grizzly in October this year while elk hunting in the Sunlight.

Last year there was an investigation in late October over an incident in the Crandall Area. The shooter turned himself in. He had been a victim of a grizzly mauling about 5-6 years before that. I heard the investigation went nowhere because they couldn't find the bear.

These bear incidents will continue to increase. I think that I ran into at least 15 grizzly bears while hiking and hunting in 2017. I always worry more about how many I don't see. Those are the bears that will get you.

just sayin...mh

I imagine that Mr. Sheets has a bunch of bills to pay. If someone has set up an account to help him and his family, please post it on MM. I'd sure send some $$ his way.

Thanks.

While I was hunting in elk area 51 during the first week of October, the G+F drove by me on the Beartooth Highway hauling a grizzly they had trapped someplace.
They released it up there somewhere. Possibly near the top of the world store.
I never saw a bear while I was there, but sure thought that I would. Especially, after the release of one near my camp and after some of the sighn I saw while hunting.
Maybe I'll see one next time out.

Hopefully not too close for comfort though.
