Well awesome that all depends who you ask. Those from Utah who know all the ins and outs of mule deer hunting/management will tell you it needs to change to fit their needs and wants. I mean after all they know deer management so there has to be truth in it.....right?

It's true, we do know what's best, but them stubborb Wyoming guys just don't understand. They're confused. It's really hard for me sometimes to always being the smartest one in the room. LMAO
If they'd just stick to herding sheep and let us Utards do the hunting and managing of the herd, all would be wonderful.

I better be quiet, or Wyoming will pass a law not allowing me to talk about Wyoming people anymore. ha ha

One of these days you all will be begging us to tell you what to do. And we'll probably still come in and take care of business, but we won't be happy at that point. You better just take our advice now. Cut them resident tags back enough that us tards can all hunt every year, and we'll come up and keep that buck-to-doe ratio where it needs to be.
All residents who quit deer hunting will receive a lifetime rabbit license, and we'll even donate some of our deer meat on the way back to tardville.

I was just waiting for someone to come up with a little ditty like that one, LOL!

My goal was to get a laugh out of ya guys.

but here is what I do know. I don't hunt region g but the areas I do hunt the mule deer hunting was unreal. I help a outfitter out and we were seeing 200 mule deer a day. If you know how to hunt the migration trails the hunting is great. We slammed a lot of big bucks and passed a lot of big bucks. The people that complained both residents and non-residents all say its the worst they ever seen and these are the guys that never leave the truck. I myself like whitetails and across the river I get a full view of hunters. They just drive around and complain the deer numbers are down. if they got out and sat next to the corn field edges those deer come out both whiteys and muleys so that's there loss and more deer to come to me. I don't shoot the muleys cause I don't get the thrill like I do on whiteys.

Now working for a outfitter I strongly disagree with them. They are very good at telling the game warden on want they want to tell them to get things there way. chris queen is guilty of this. a outfitter who also builds houses built a place for chris and he just cries to chris on how bad it is and how to persuade him to get things his way.

Brian,

I almost feel sorry for you as WY NR hunter, almost...having to hunt 6 years in a row and all.

I feel great about Utah, I've been applying for tags there for 19 years and never drawn a single one.

BTW, just what does a guy do with 19 UT deer points anyway?

Don't waste your time. Nothing but a bunch of low flying, game herding outfitters with millions of non-residents killing all the fork horns. As a matter of fact, I think they killed all the deer in Region G last year.

You might want to check with Taylor Swift!! :D :D

I'm sure I'me not the only one who finds this post amusing!! :D :D

nfh,
I hope your comment about road hunters was not directed at me. If it was, you don't know me very well. The deer hunting in Sunlight/Crandall and also on the North Fork of the Shoshone IN MY OPINION was not great this year. I don't believe that winter kill was the reason in the Sunlight/Crandall area. I believe the migration was late in that area this year. Because of the season dates in that area, that can be a problem. I also heard, the harvest of big bucks on the LE late season 105, 106 and 109 units, was not all that great. A buddy said he saw some dandy mulies on the Sunlight refuge after the LE deer season during the late season cow hunts. As to the North Fork of the Shoshone, I have another opinion about the cause of that. I have expressed many times what that opinion is.

My opinions are backed up by the two wardens I talked to and those at the Cody check station. They are also backed up by my own observations. One remote drainage that I have successfully hunted for years, did not yield a decent buck sighting in 8 days of hunting. I spoke to a well known taxidermist in Cody just this morning and he said it was not a great year for big mule deer. He showed me what had come in. I remember the check station guys telling me of only a couple of 180 type bucks coming in from the North Fork. I know what drainage they came from. The check station guys were actually touting a large 2x2 they had checked on November 9th. Now if all the big bucks that are being harvested aren't being checked in at the Cody check station, that could be indicative of another problem.

I see alot of pictures of muley bucks every year that come from this area. Some of them involve a hunter squatting 6 ft. behind a dead buck. Others have their arms extended out on the antlers of the buck in what looks like an uncomfortable position. Not exactly an accurate way to assess the age or size of the harvested buck.

I appreciate you wanting to talk up the outfit you guide for. We all have opinions based on what each of us is seeing. You need to remember that. I had to laugh about the comments on Queen. I know that many perceive him to be attached at the hip with the mule riding contractor you are talking about. I always thought that Chris lived in the housing provided by the G&F in Powell and in the Sunlight. Chris took a great muley buck last year. This year, I heard he was too busy hunting grizzly bears :).

just sayin...mh

I know you hunt hard. But the ones that drive and complain about it being horrible make me laugh when on the north fork if you know the migration trails it's unreal hunting. I'm not bragging the outfit up I work with. Him and I disagree on several things.. like I said several giants were taken we passed on several good bucks. The weather this year was perfect. In the past when it's warmer we don't see 200 deer a day. It's maybe up to 40 does a day and just a few bucks but we always go that extra mile to find them. Also that check station isn't always open. By the time some get off the mountain it's closed. So my opinion on the north fork was awesome and I got pics to prove that and they are not 10 feet back from the deer

I find it funny your comment about attached to the hip cause you know exactly who I'm talking about.

I haven't hit the sunlight area this year. I do know a guide and him and his son took some darn good bucks but that's traveling several miles on horses. This summer I spent 24 days straight up the greybull cleaning trails on a contract we had with the forest service. Elk numbers looked great. I didn't see much for muleys but when I worked in the oil field by Jack creek I always seen some good bucks but mostly private land
