10 Elk points - trespass Hunt?

I have been planning to burn my WY points in 2018 for a few years now. A few years ago, I was set on 45, then the past few years I was planning on 16-2, but to do it during archery season... might not draw 16-2 with 10 points, in either regular or special. I just don't feel all that confident in either of those options at this point. I would prefer to do this archery, but like the idea that I can come back with a rifle if need be.... although if I found the right type 9 option was available, I would go that route.

So the past couple weeks, I have been thinking about maybe I can do a hunt with trespass fee as an option. Maybe in unit 7? Was hoping someone knew of a decent option? I'm not fully opposed to going with guides, but would prefer to do without a guide if I can make it work. I am experienced and have killed a few bulls with my bow, so I am trying to find an option that would give me a ?chance? at hunting bigger bulls. Going home without an elk is ok too, and I will hold out for a nice bull.

I can keep waiting, but would prefer over time to hunt general or a unit I can draw every 3 to 4 years and rotate it with a few other states. Anybody have any brilliant ideas? Or a lead where I can do a trespass hunt somewhere?

Appreciate the time, merry Christmas.

From my knowledge of unit 45, I'd say go with the 45-9 tag and have fun up there the entire month of September if you can be there that long. If you have two weeks or less I'd hunt the first two weeks and if they eliminate the Type 1 tags from hunting the archery season the last half of the month, which is the scuttlebutt going around the net, I'd hunt the middle two weeks or more if possible.

If you're thinking of an outfitter look at some of the wilderness hunts around Cody. you can't draw the late ones but I think you can draw one of the early limited hunts.

If I had the money, knowing at my age I'll never be in this position again, I'd grab the wife go on a late season back country horse camp hunt around the park.

Thanks for the input... I do want to do a horse back hunt up by Yellowstone sometime with the grizzlies and all.... but can't I do that with a general tag?

Not sure I can draw the late hunts that are really good?

I have looked at trails west outfitters for a few years, and that has always tempted me.

Where would you grab the wife Bob, LOL?!!!

10 points going into this year should get you a 61 (1) tag. If i was you I would get the 61 (1) tag and go with Trails West Outfitters the last week of September and talk to them about staying the 1st week of October if you can't get it done with a bow.

I have been way up the south fork of the Shoshoni twice, I would not trade a true wilderness hunt for any other type of elk hunt. everyone should experience it at least once.

61 wit would be the next best thing to the top late hunts in my opinion.
