antelope unit 64

Thinking of burning my points this year on unit 64 antelope (non res). Is it worth it? Would the quality of hunt be the same near the end of the season in October rather than the opener in September? Any info is appreciated.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-30-18 AT 09:45AM (MST)[p]A lot of people must think it's a good unit since it took 10 points last year for a 100% draw chance. I like to skip the first week or two of a season if it's long enough to be able put in plenty of time later on, especially with antelope. That's a big unit with almost 100% being public land and there were only 100 total buck tags and 25 doe tags issued there last year, so I would probably reverse that strategy and hunt the first week or two since the unit shouldn't be overrun with hunters like some are that require a lot less points and have a lot more tags issued. JMHO!

64 is a migration unit. What that means is all the antelope leave 64 and migrate to other units once the snow flies. Go too late and no antelope to hunt. Something to consider.

I hunted it 7-8 years ago and had a great hunt. I went the second week and hardly saw any other hunters. Lots of Bucks to look at you just have to pick through them to find the one you want.

Pay attention to the opening dates of 25 elk cow and bull, general deer, youth deer seasons too as that will add a bunch of people to the area. I had it one year. Seemed every time I went, so did everyone else

I had the tag last year. Saw 150 - 200 bucks a day. Hunted for a week the third week of season. Snow, rain, fog and some sunny days too. Rut was really strong and bucks were chasing does hard. Didn't see anything bigger than 75-77". I was holding out for 80" and ate my tag. Fun hunt not having to worry about private land issues.
