antelope 65 or 75

I'm getting ready for the antelope draw and I want your guys thoughts about a couple of units, 65 and 75. I have enough points that my father and I are a 100% draw for the reg NR draw. I have done research and narrowed it down to these 2 units. I have spoke to 3 different WY biologist and they were very helpful and honest. I'm looking for a unit in the upper end of quality, but that is not my main concern. I was told 75 is a little industrial , were as 65 is not. That has me leaning to 65. Looking at maps 75 appears to have more blm, but I was told both units have no problem with access.

I'm just looking for any opinion on either unit; trophy quality, access, camping and just overall hunting experience.

I haven't hunted either, but have been in both hunting bordering antelope units and elk. I would choose 75 based on what I saw, antelope seemed smaller and more skittish in 65, but I definitely spent more time there.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-17-18 AT 09:47AM (MST)[p]I see you have now C/Pd the same post on here that was on HT yesterday, so my answer will be the same as I posted over there. Go hunt 75 and don't worry about it being "industrial", whatever that means, LOL!

what I meant by industrial was, I heard that there alot of stacks and other items that has to do with the energy business that WY is in.

That really doesn't clear up anything regarding your use of the word "industrial" IMHO! What do you now mean by "stacks and other items"? Are you referring to "storage tanks" that hold oil after it's pumped from the ground? If that's the case and you haven't hunted in Wyoming for antelope before, there are things of that nature all over various units. Some have a few, some have many, and some don't have any if that's what you're talking about.

I have hunted WY before but it was 35 + yrs ago. Just disregard the industrial part of this. Just looking for an overall experience in either unit.

Now you ask me to disregard what you started that you still haven't answered on my followup posts! Why is it so hard for you not to just tell us what you're talking about? When I tried to narrow it down as to what you were talking about all you had to do was reply with a yes or a no and you come back with that last post!

>Holy cow sheep, you better answer

Damn right or I'm coming after him, LOL!

Easy choice-- 75 is the better unit hands down. You might want to consider hunting last 2 weeks of season in Oct when it likely is cold & snowy & the antelope are "bunched up" in bigger groups -- they are normally not as wild then, plus you can compare lots of bucks together & compare them. Look for : big long prongs, lots of mass all over the horns, decent length of at least 15 1/2-- 16 inches. Big long prongs are really tough to find-- look for 6--7 1/2 inch prongs, then look very close ! Look for a big bodied buck too, 1 1/2 -- 2 times bigger than the does around him. Good hunting & enjoy !

I think he is referring to oil and gas development. I guess if I were to go on a camping trip, I would choose 65, but an antelope hunt 75. It seemed like much less development in 65.

Sheep97 I have been in both units and understand what you mean by "industrial". Topgun likes to bust peoples chops but doesn't like it when the table is turned on him..

There is a ton of development in the gas fields in 75. Numbers will be down in those areas due to constant human activity and travel patterns interrupted. The benefit is more roads put in but then again there are more roads put in for everybody so that cuts both ways. Most of the gas fields really don't like you shooting rifles around or thru the equipment, workers, constant vehicle traffic and leases so that can be a problem. So all the roads are soon not in hunt able areas not to mention during times of bad weather (usually the end of season) the condition of these roads with constant heavy equipment traveling them is no match for the above average pickup. Unless you have something really solid in this area or just want to experience all the above then a more scenic (non gas field) hunt in 65 would be in order. There are a lot of good goats there. It just comes down to what do you want.

I see you're another that posts BS back or at people while having a disabled profile! Put your name up and where you live or go jump in the lake! I merely asked a very simple question as to what he meant by "industrial" and never got an answer. Then when I even spelled it out and asked if oil/gas was what he was talking about and a all he needed was to post was a simple yes or no, he came back with a "forget the industrial comment"! I also disagree with you synopsis of 75 and still feel as all the other member that have replied on this thread that he should hunt 75. It's a huge unit and there is plenty of area that has antelope that he won't have problems like you are mentioning or others would have mentioned it. Also, your comment about the roads and where all of them would be making the areas unhuntable makes absolutely no sense at all. It's all public land and whether the "industrial" people like it or not the entire unit is open to hunting because it's OUR PUBLIC LAND!

He was just another guy asking an honest question on here that you had to jump on. You knew what he meant by industrial. Huge areas don't mean antelope are in those huge areas. Responsible hunting is still being responsible. What is your backdrop as you are firing that rifle around all those roads? The same roads that encourage more antelope to be in the area or avoid the area? Again what type of hunt do you want? 75 has seen a huge increase in tags and "industrial" development over the past 10 years. Numbers and age class reflect accordingly. Not to mention every other oil field worker having a rifle. What hunt do you want?

Can't jump in the lake its hardpan still!

I had no idea what he meant by industrial or I wouldn't have asked the question and for you to say that I did is absolute BS! I don't know what your problem is, but I probably shouldn't even reply to someone that is so chickenshit that they won't even post their name on a website and hide behind their keyboard! I would hope that people shoot only where it's safe to shoot and because it's a huge area it's probable that the antelope will move to quieter areas away from areas where activity might be a problem. You even mentioned in your post about the increase in tags for 75, so that IMHO is a plus for the unit! Also, who cares if every oil worker has a rifle, as that has nothing to do with anything we're talking about?! With only 35 posts on this site you evidently haven't been on for 10 years or more like I have to see how much help I try to give others! You are also unanimously outvoted by others on this thread that have responded and would hunt 75 over 65!

TOPGUN, YOU HAVE TOO MUCH TIME ON YOUR HANDS......AND YOUR CRAP GETS OLD. GO OVER AND TRY HUNTTALK FOR A COUPLE YEARS. .................YD.

Thanks for all the help. The way this post is going is what I was afraid of. "Industrial" was a term the biologist used, and from the sounds of it, it was a honest description.
Just want to have a fun hunt with a chance at above average goat.

After speaking to multiple biologist it sounds like both unit have about the same quality. So I was looking to you guys on the overall thoughts on each unit. Like camping, access, and anything else that makes a one time antelope hunt better.

Wasn't this a good enough answer to your question?

what I meant by industrial was, I heard that there alot of stacks and other items that has to do with the energy business that WY is in.

Yes, and I apologize to him and everyone else for not reading that in it's entirety to get to the word "energy" and I would have known what he meant. I got through the first part of the sentence where he mentioned "stacks and other items" and just plum didn't finish the sentence where he said "energy business". My bad and will make sure and read closer from now on before I criticize like I did! However, YD can still stick it where the sun don't shine because I really do try to help people as much as possible on this site and HT and I just plain screwed up by not reading an entire response by the OP and, again, I apologize to him and the other members!

In Topgun's defense he does have a lot of good information on here for the less informed. Sometimes he comes across as overbearing and condescending to those that don't know all the ins and outs like he does.

75 is way down from what it was before Eastman's and others upgraded it too many permits too much development.. 65 has better scenery, some awesome camp sites with a view beyond belief, less of all the other crap and will be a better hunt experience for what sheep or anyone else is looking for. The Biologists even said the same thing I'm tellin ya.

How about just saying that I'm a crochety old 70 year old that sometimes pisses people off the way he says things! That sounds much better than "condescending and overbearing" even though it probably comes out as the same thing!

I would like to everyone for their input and help in my decision making process. I've always tried to help others when it comes info on lottery tags.

Now, it looks ONE SHOT could be throwing a wrinkle in my plans.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-24-18 AT 06:48PM (MST)[p]65 gets tags from the oneshot competition which generates more traffic and people in the unit that the tag numbers in the application book would reflect. There are often a lot of people running around 65, including helicopter activity from the nearby military base. I would choose 75 out of those 2.
