Unit 88 Antelope

I decided to cash in my points and this tag should be a 100 percent for me this year. I am coming from Boise and wanted to try to stay on the western part of the state.

Any tips, recommendations for hunting, camping, ect. for this unit? I am not looking for booner buck, just a good mature mid 70's goat would be fine.

The maps I have looked at show a good mix maybe 50% - of public land. Any issues on access or even any general areas to check out? Any willing landowners to allow access?

Appreciate any help. I am going DIY on this hunt. I hunted a couple years ago near Casper with SNS outfitters and it was a good hunt, but I just can't get use to hunting with a guide - need to do it on my own.

Thanks
Adam

I live next to 88. To tell you the truth, its nothing like hunting over by Casper. Yes there is a mix of private/public, but most the goats hang out on private and will migrate through the public. Migration times vary from season to season depending on weather. A mid '70s buck is top end. As you probably know, the antelope/deer where hit by the winter apocalypse of 16/17. There was a good reduction in tags in all the areas in and around 88. If you can be around during the migration you'll have a better chance at the buck your looking for. Easily though, the best antelope hunting is east of the continental divide.

What other units should I look at? I just want a decent unit to hunt in central/western wyoming that has good public land and some decent goats. Maybe 89, try for 93 or 90?

I have 3 points, but paid for the special tag and a bonus point so I guess going in I will have 4 points and the special draw?

I logged into the fish and game website and it will allow me to change my unit - just need to know which one?

Thanks
Adam

You will only have 3 PPs for the draw, as that PP you paid for on your application isn't good until the 2019 draw. Seeing as you're bent on hunting way over on the west side, forget my suggestion that I sent in my PM to save your points and hunt a good unit on the east side that will have a lot more antelope than where you're talking about going! Also, if you want to modify your license, you'll have to stay in the special draw or withdraw completely and start over and pay ore money because the money you already paid wouldn't be refunded onto your credit card until July. I can't understand why someone would apply this early and then be asking stuff like this when the end of the application period isn't until 5/31 with the draw in June!

I just wanted to let you know how the modify feature works and that the PP you paid for isn't good for the draw this year. Good luck!

I appreciate all the advise. I switched my application to unit 90. I may not draw it this year with 3 points in the special but I will take my chances as it seems to be a better unit as far as animals and access.

PM'd you. Good luck with the draws.
