unit 57 antelope herd?

There should have been no winter kill this winter. from what I was told the 2016/2017 winter did take a few out.

I hunted 57 in 2016 and the number of goats was beyond anything I've ever seen. the number of high end ones was much less impressive .

I took an 82 2/8 net buck but I looked at A LOT of low to mid 70's bucks to find him. I saw nothing else over 80 . I went late because it fit my schedule and I wanted to avoid the hunter pressure. I succeeded in that as I don't think I saw another hunter , but the goats had been picked over pretty well. I'd go early if I was to do it again.

Even with a bad winter it is hard to beat 57 for antelope. Shear numbers and amount of space makes 57 an unreal hunt. You can drive that country for 4 days straight and not cover it all and definitely not see all the animals.

If you draw it, let me know I will be in the unit on other hunts and if I know an antelope guy is out and about I can certainly share if I see a good lope.

If you are looking for a decent lope then as mentioned a mid 70s goat is a dime a dozen, but breaking the 80" mark is hard. However the fact that in morning you can see 100+ bucks, eventually you will find one.

As for winter kill, all of NW CO and SW/South Central WY is looking pretty good. We have gotten some deeper snow lately with much of it having a nasty crust, but luckily it late and close to warm up and he animals have had it really easy...

>Heck Maddog, I'd call than one

>57 oughta be in decent shape.

LOL, he was a beautiful super heavy buck. Love the character, close enough for me

I hunted unit 57 antelope in 2016..after about 5 days did find a solid heavy 80+ with lots of character that I could not pass but as stated lots of mid 75's..would love to hunt that unit again...I stayed at Baggs and hunted out from there ( motel )..Danny..if you draw will share what I know..
