How bad will deer and lope point creep be.

Point creep bit me in the elk draw. Dang near bit me in the Utah bear draw. Could bite me in the Colorado deer draw, the Wyoming Antelope draw and if I choose the Wyoming deer draw. I have a half point more than I need in the lope draw and there is a slight tag increase, we will just have to see. Good luck to all!

There are just so many people with a lot of points. Combine that with the fact that hunters are better than ever, our success rates climb with all the tools we have at our disposal, so to offset that, tags have to be cut to maintain the same quality.

Everything will just keep getting harder and harder to draw.

I expected the areas I hunt to take a 1/2 point more this year than last, and keep that pace for years to come.

I sure wish they would move to more short-range weapon hunts and make rifle hunts limited entry. Something needs to be done to protect the quality but still offer opportunity. I think that is the way to do it. I think this needs to be done all across the West. I don't know what to do to get it to happen, maybe just keep talking about it and keep suggesting it and writing letters.

Isn't it all pretty much LQ for NR's in Wyoming anyway?

General isn't even really general since you've got to draw!

It's a great system with awesome opportunity and they're very generous to us evil NR dudes.

Seems some guys have got to have the biggest animal around while other just want to hunt more often. Both of those type hunts are available in Wyoming right now without "changing" a bunch of crap that the residents don't want changed.

^^^ Exactly! Wyoming is the best state for NRs out west without a doubt and I have no idea how anyone can complain. What Zeke mentioned is right on the button. I haven't missed a season out there in 20 years because I'm happy just to be out in the field and it doesn't have to be in a unit that takes max points to draw! In fact, I've only used PPs for one deer hunt and for 2 antelope hunts in that entire 20 years.

I've never analyzed antelope odds or odds in many other deer units and regions. Has other areas been taking more points each year or is it just the few deer areas I watch?

Maybe Wyoming is immune to what's happening everywhere else (point creep and tag reductions) Leaving it alone with no future plan to maintain opportunity could be the best train of thought. ha ha

I'm sure game animals will evolve at the same rate as humans. I think they're working on bullet proof vests right now!!!

Just to be clear more than anything I was referring to where I hunt in Northern Utah when I was talking about going to short-range weapons and making rifle limited entry. I don't mean 2000 tags whem thats how many bucks there are on the whole damn unit. That's not very limited. I'm talking much much more limited than that. I would love it if they did that in Utah. I'm willing to bet some Wyoming residents wouldn't mind if they did that where they hunt either.

I don't think you'll find too many residents in favor of LQ, or decreased hunting opportunity.

On the matter of points, there's not much that will stop creep, it's the nature of the beast. A few areas will have tag increases, so points required could at least stay the same for a year, probably best case scenario.

Opportunity would not be decreased. It would just be using a different weapon. This Thread is gotten off topic. Once again, I'm talking about where I hunt in Northern Utah. I'm not telling you guys what you should do in Wyoming.

So here's my simple thoughts on point creep. It will continue to get worse because of the principle of supply and demand. The supply of animals can not (due to habitat) increase at the increased rate of demand, so more points will be required to obtain the coveted tags.
The number of hunters wanting tags is not going to decrease so we are stuck with what we have.
