I wonder how many people know how this judge got on the federal bench? A few years ago, Senator Max Baucus (D) from Montana requested this judge's appointment to the bench by President Barack Obama. Prior to that nomination, Dana Christensen was asked by Baucus to "independently" review and vet Melodee Hanes for her nomination as U.S. Attorney for the State of Montana. Max Baucus neglected to disclose that Melodee Hanes was his girlfriend at the time. Dana Christensen gave a big thumbs up to Melodee Hanes for appointment as U.S. attorney for Montana. Her legal background as an attorney would not suggest that she was qualified for such as position. The nomination was later withdrawn by Baucus after word got out that Melodee Hanes was in fact his paramour. We should all remember that elections and political favors may have long term consequences.

I would expect a Preliminary Injunction to be forthcoming right before the TRO runs out. I would be surprised if a grizzly hunt takes place in Wyoming anytime soon.

I support the grizzly hunt. But understand, it takes more than a year to get a species to go from endangered species list to a hunt based state management program. Everything we are seeing is to be expected. It is the Federal judges duty to analyze the concerns of the conservation groups and make sure the population of the species is in fact ready for delisting. That's why Idaho only did one tag. They expected this process. There will be a grizzly hunt but it may take a few years. The State agencies just need to be careful to make sure the hunts are based off of appropriate population models.

Before you make any more posts about this I'd suggest you get schooled on everything that Wyoming has done to ensure this hunt has absolutely no negative effects on the present numbers that are way over what is needed to keep the bears off the ESA list forever!

Bearhunter when is it a federal judges duty to do this? You are telling me that all this management planning, all this lobbying, all this money spent for the last decade or more on research supporting a delisting is subject to a federal judges ?duty?. He won't even personally talk to anyone, he won't step outside his bench, he won't try to understand the problem that these over populated bears are causing. Also why are we always walking on eggshells with these left wing wack jobs and their appointed judges, when are we (ourside) going to march up in masses and demand a management plan that would have prevented the guild from getting murdered by that sow? When is an animal more important than a human life? This is all crap, and as far as I'm concerned as long as these people continue to ignore the problem and make it more about the bears they will have blood on their hands every time a grizzly kills a human being. We humans are superior to any animal period!

Here we go again. I doubt this decision to return the grizzly bear to federal control will withstand an appeal. Just like Judge Amy Berman Jackson was slammed by the appeals court in the wolf case, this judge will be overruled. He will have some time to bask in the light of being the darling of the eco-elites. After that, his opinion will end up on the ash pile. just sayin...mh

Another article. This article suggests what I have always thought about many federal district court judges involved in environmental cases. This judge made the decision to relist the bears, and spent the rest of his time trying to come up with an excuse for his decision. Just remember, with the restoration of federal control over these bears, we have a Secretary of Interior who has little interest in federal control over the process.

The Wyoming Game and Fish will be making the decisions on problem bears with little oversight from the Feds. In other words, the only thing that will change is the problem grizzly bears will be harvested by G&F and not by hunters. I firmly believe the USFWS will defer to the state on the subject. I know it is a disappointment to those who wanted a chance at a grizzly bear, but the problem bears are what need to be thinned out. As a person who lives in the heart of grizzly bear country in Wyoming, this is a good thing.
