LAST EDITED ON Jan-27-19 AT 11:40AM (MST)[p]So I am new to this forum I live in Wyoming and that's why I am posting in the Wyoming section

So my wife has a 260 Ruger 77 and I finally convinced her dad to let me reload for it after he saw the accuracy of some other guns I had loaded for and he told her that I can start reloading for that gun (he's really old school) they shoot remington core lokts 140 gr out of it and they don't really like the ballistic tip bullets and they don't shoot long range (300 yards is probably her max) so I was wondering what bullet would be good for this range.. this Ruger is stock and I think it's a youth model maybe it's got a 18-20 inch barrel I think and a fixed 6 power scope and he hunts deer antelope and elk and she has killed every one but her groups are probably 2 inches and I'd like to put a higher bc bullet in it that can help with bucking the wind because it gets a little windy over here and again I hope I posted in the correct thread let me know what you guys think

The reason I put it on this thread is because Wyoming is where we hunt all the time so the guys who live and hunt in Wyoming might know a little better than somewhere else

I reload Hornady Interlocks in 3 different calibers (.243, 25-06, and 30-06) with great accuracy and terminal performance, but accubonds that most will probably recommend won't let you down either.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-27-19 AT 06:08PM (MST)[p]I really like my Accubond in my 300 and 270 but I was sort of looking for non ballistic tip bullets Accubond are worth a shot but anything with exposed lead I'd like bonded but it doesn't have to be I suppose they just consider ballistic tips as varmint bullets I really like Accubonds but they like traditional looking bullets for some reason

Not to be an ass, but it sounds to me like your in-laws don't know chit from low grade peanut butter about bullets.

I'd use a hunting weight ballistic tip over a core-lokt bullet every time. The hunting version of the ballistic tip bullet is better in every way to a core-lokt, not even a comparison.

As to the accubonds, I don't know how many big-game animals I've killed with them...over 50 for sure, from coues deer to pronghorn to bears to elk. Ranges from 25 yards to 620, all of the .284 type in 140 and 160 grain versions. I would think the accubonds in .264 would be equally as good.

You could always try the partitions as well, if your in-laws cant jump into the new century and them "new fangled" plastic tipped bullets.

Those partitions are good bullets...especially if your not shooting over 300 yards...i quit using them in 7s just because they were wasting meat.
Worked great for my kids 243 growing up...always found animals even on marginal shots

Yeah they will come around I shoot plastic top in almost all my hunting rigs but from the sounds of it the Accubond is the bees knees compared to all other hunting bullets but they use those bullets because they have killed every thing they shot with them and it's not that they don't know what a good bullet is they do know they just don't have any reason to switch to a premium bullet if the cheap bullets kill just as dead but I like premium bullets and I reload I didn't post this to make fun of them or complaine they have there reasons for shooting what they shoot I was posting on here just to see what where some good bullet options for my specific situation

I mostly use the Hornady 129gr SST, but if you want a non tipped bullet, then Sierra game Kings are great. I have taken more than a few deer with my .260 Remington in a model seven.
Sierra's new bullets called "Game Changers" are very similar to the ELD-X bullets that Hornady offers.
I really prefer the bullets around 130gr. in the short barrel .260 I have.
