Wyoming Coyote

Hello All,
Can anyone tell me about trapping coyotes in Wyoming?
They are not listed as a furbearer so its hard to get info on the web-site.

Can they be trapped year round?

Would a non-resident need a license if they have a permit to hunt other big game?

Thanks much.

Conducting a search string "Wyoming coyote trapping" on google search would reveal that, they are classified as predators and under Dept of Ag not Fish and Game for regulation sake. (Internet the encyclopedia/dictionary of 2000's.)

I don't think Wyoming let's non residents trap without a fur dealers licensei didn't dig into it a whole lot, but when I did a couple years ago, I couldn't find any regs that spelled it out clearly.
Probably best to ask a Warden about that one.
I have given thought to it myself, and still on the fence about the idea.
But, I likely won't have time to hunt deer or elk and run traps. Not to mention skin the catches and flesh and store the hides for the trip home.
Lots of coyotes out there in the areas I hunted in Wyoming though.
Probably easier to set up a day or two and try to call in a few.
If you find something out though please share what they tell you.

If you're going to trap you better have a fur bearers license. Coyotes can be hunted anytime but trapping is regulated to what your home state allows NR to trap.
If you don't have say bobcat trapping at home then you can not come to Wyoming and trap bobcats.
You can shoot coyotes but to set out traps you need a fur bearers license. Traps must have your name or trapping number on them also.

Coyotes, and wolves, in certain parts of the state can be shot on sight without a license.

In Wyoming there is no license needed to hunt, shoot or trap coyotes.

Would be great if a non resident could trap coyotes without having to spend big bucks for any additional license or permits.
I highly recommend talking to the G+F before setting steel out.
I have a hard time believing they will let you set traps, saying they are only for coyotes.
Traps catch what steps on em hard enough. Incedental catches can't always be released unharmed.
But if jm77 is correct I will certainly be slinging traps myself this fall in Wyoming.

Good point jm77. I was thinking that because of incidental catch you might be required to have a fur bearers license but if you release everything but predators then you should be good without the license.
I would talk with the GW for the area though to save some questions if they find your traps.
Might be hard to explain if you don't check them everyday and catch a fur bearer that doesn't survive.

Been told that no lic. needed but I would have to call the Game Warden if a furbearing animal was caught. To avoid calling the GW one would have to purchase the license at $249.
