Leasing hunting land in Montana?-

I am looking at leasing over 11,000 acres here in Montana. Ranch includes elk, deer, antelope, bear, and lions along with great trout fishing with 2 miles of Smith river frontage. Curious what others have paid for similar leases here in Montana? I am primarily a rifle hunter, and I am thinking of sub-leasing bow hunting rights perhaps by the week for small groups 3-4 times during the bow season, anyone else ever do any subleasing like that?

Lease rates vary depending on the property. I would expect to pay at lest a buck an acre and maybe much more.
Are you a Montana resident. If not you should not expect to draw a tag every year. Last year even the elk/deer combo licence had more hunters applying than the number of licences. I would expect the odds to get more difficult in the future.

Yep, I am a resident. Why are you expecting odds for a NR to get tougher? I believe neighboring states have had some tough weather as of late, so Montana has picked up that slack.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-26-18 AT 12:30PM (MST)[p]The economy is going good, and this allows more people to spend the money on a western hunt.
Leasing is becoming more and more prevalent in eastern states. More and more often Non residents are looking at paying for hunting in there home state or doing a DYI western adventure.

I have been able to lease the first and third weeks of bow season here in Montana for elk. I will lease just one , possibly two more times to a group.
