Rifle Elk

Being a guy that's certainly not to proud to admit when I need help, I have a question:

I'm bringing my dad and uncle out for rifle elk this year. We hunted the Pioneers last year during archery season, saw a couple bulls but they holed up in the dark timber which made for very difficult hunting, especially for 2 guys in their 60's.

Anyway...my question is this: Anyone have any thoughts on the Pioneers vs. the Gravellies for the rifle hunt? I realize the Gravellies get a lot of pressure, but I'd like nothing more than for my dad and uncle to kill some elk. I'm aware of the wolf issues in both areas, just looking for some general thoughts on what you guys think might give me the best chance to get the old timers on some decent bulls.

typical useless response above.

Stick with the Pioneers. There are lots of elk there. The gravelies are a little nastier country and big bears in there. Get in those dark holes after them and you won't be sorry. The days of finding lots of elk in the open in the Big Hole are dwindling. you'll see them in the sage on the private but so will everyone else.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-17-11 AT 09:57PM (MST)[p]Its a typical BS question. If this guy cant get his own family on an elk WTF would hire him to find them one?If you have "outfitters" why are you asking for help finding easy elk on an internet forum????

theres nothing wrong with him asking. Just shut your yap and dont share anything if you dont like it. Personally Im not going to share anything with someone who may sell the information to clients.

Your response was just as useless, what a HYPOCRITE!"You should stfu, but Im not going to help either because hes an outfitter???"

I'm not an outfitter, gang. Nor am I interested in getting info from any of you that I can turn and "sell" to someone else.

I've had some luck finding elk in the Pioneers, but that has been during archery season. I was simply interested in opinions about the Pioneers vs the Gravellies for rifle elk since this will be the first time I hunt montana during the rifle season.

Thanks to Dreaminbig for the positive response.
