I am not usually the type to ask for info on the internet... I am from North Central Montana. I have hunted that area my whole life and I know most of it pretty well. I have been in the AF for 11 years and am currently stationed at Hill AFB in Utah. I came home and hunted elk last week to no avail (got a bear though!) My problem is that it takes about 9 hours to get to where I am familiar with hunting. I can be to Dillon in 4 hours... I feel like I am passing up alot of ground to get to the area I know. I dont need anything specific, just wondering about populations, wolves, griz, etc... I would be able to hunt weekends alot more often if it was only 4 hrs instead of 9. Is there a good enough population and public land access to make it worth learning the area for archery hunting? Any info would be helpful.

Thanks for the insight on the area guys. If I can talk the boss into allowing me a couple more days of leave I will get up there next week and beat feet a bit to get familiar with some of the area.

Thanks fellas

I would not tell this guy anything! I used to hunt with him, went elk hunting with him once, he tripped over a log and broke his bow, then wanted to use mine! What ever this guy tells u let it be known that he is not nimble like an antelope! How r u Shane! No really he is good guy, I am just giving him crap
