Going out next week for mule deer. Haven't heard anything promising about the survival from last winter. Anybody have first-hand knowledge of what it is really like?

LAST EDITED ON Oct-30-11 AT 08:43PM (MST)[p]Where you going. I went there opening week and a buddy went out to our other usual spot

Headed to the north side this year. Hunted on the south last year.

Hi Shane,
I spent alot of time in antelope dist. 620 this year. Very few antelope but was happy with the amount of deer I was spotting. I think there are some good bucks out there based on what I saw I was farther west then where you have been in the past, and was told that it was a little more mild winter around Dry Fork rd. area towards the lake. I am elk hunting next week and will check out our deer spot the following week. The pics. of bucks I have seen have had some good antler growth, it was a tough winter but also some pretty good feed this summer.
Good Luck, talk to you later.
Chris

Chris,
Thanks for the info. I have heard some very mixed reports. Seems to be very dependent on where you are at. Most have reported it is worse the farther north you go. I did hear the antelope were bad everywhere though. Buddy of mine got a beautiful 16" buck but saw very few.

Just got home from a 8 day elk/deer hunting the North Breaks. No use sugar coating it, deer #'s are WAY down. Been hunting the area for some 40 years. Some deer still there, I promise you'll find more evidence of dead then alive as far as deer go. But the deer you will see won't be young of the year, seen some darn good antler growth on a couple mature bucks.
