I spend a bunch of time at my friends ranch in unit 410 and see big bulls all the time. I have been trying to draw a rifle permit for a long time. I know the draw odds suck for residents and really suck for non residents. I finally decided to try for unit with a little better draw odds. I got lucky and drew a tag in unit 417. I had a great time seen quite a few bulls. bunch of small bulls and some broken up bulls. The country is beautiful and the breaks are steeper then they look. It's crazy how well the elk can hide in small timber patches.
Not the monster everyone dreams about but a great bull and I am really happy with him. Now I can start over and try and draw a archery tag and chase bulls at my friends place. My personal observations is that 410 has better bulls.
I ate expensive deer tag soup. The deer numbers were way down ( unit 410 ). Seen about 10 bucks but nothing I wanted to shoot. Hope it's a easy winter this year.
