First Time Montana Hunters

Hello,

I needed a few opinions from folks who have hunted Montana in the past. My dad and I are going to be applying this year, but have no idea where to start. We have never hunted Montana, so were looking to a good reference point. We have called FWP, and were told that anywhere is good, which was kinda vague. So my questions are: Are the hunting districts that you need a permit better? We're non-residents, so is the 900+ for a combo license worth it? We have only our boots to propels us around, so walking from a 4x4 truck is our only option. West, Central or East side of state? I would prefer to hunt both deer and elk, but my dad is a lil older and just likes to get out, so his prefernce is deer, but will hunt elk with the right conditions. We are looking forward to the hunt either way. Afterall it's about the experience, not the success, even though filling your tag is a plus.

Thanks,

Joe.

Chances of shooting an elk if its your first time in the state are very slim. Hunting pressure is pretty high anywhere there is game that is available. But it is doable! Just hike long and hard
