LAST EDITED ON Feb-12-12 AT 07:22PM (MST)[p]How much money the f&g spends every year to figure out that elk move on to private land at the beginning of hunting season...Something every single person that has hunted elk in MT has figured out in a very short time.I get the feeling this whole "study" is going to conclude that wolves dont harm the elk, their calves or alter their habits in any way shape or form...anyone want to bet?

MTDEADHEAD,

You run your mouth like somebody who actually thinks they know the first thing about wildlife in MT.

Thats your first big mistake.

That study quoted in the article you provided was funded from several sources, including a local Bitterroot sportsmens group, that I'm a life-member of in Montana.

Secondly, when you contribute essentially nothing to the MTFWP, it really doesnt give you much right to whine about the cost of anything. You're no better than a drunken bum waiting in line for a free meal at the poverello center in Missoula. You whine about NR's that pay for your Resident Welfare tags in Montana.

In other words, you dont have any skin in the game, yet dont mind talking out of your a$$ on issues you know nothing about.

That study is being done to find out what is killing elk and when. The early results are pointing to lions as the number one predator on elk calves by a land-slide. It also has shown that bears and wolves have killed a few as well.

To address the problem with low elk calf survival, you need to understand the issue...you need to know WTF is killing your elk. Once you know that, you can then address the issue. This study has already proven its worth as the MTFWP has already extended wolf seasons and increased lion quotas in the Bitterroot to increase calf survival. The reason both happened is because of the generousity of several local groups that funded a large portion of this study out of pocket.

No thanks to you...other than flapping your ignorant gums as usual.

He whines about the price of a resident tags...money must be scarce in his double-wide.

Calm down SPAZ,your heads gonna explode...

LAST EDITED ON Feb-15-12 AT 00:00AM (MST)[p]BuzzH, I love your response!!!!!!!!

Fact filled, driven........and shut the opposition down!!!!!!! Like the 9ers defense, but I digress.

And I don't mean to kiss you A$$ but after filtering through the Montana forum, you seem as knowledgable as anyone.

I hunted archery elk in Montana in 85, 87, 89, 93, 97, 98 and 99. Then they went a preference point system. Since Montana doen't have the PP only option, I haven't applied since. What I'd like to know is a brief summary of how the system works, including building PPs (Premium Units) for the later draw. And also about a specific unit i used to hunt OTC with the combo tag but I believe is a draw now. Basically, I'd love to use my horses to hunt the country I used to hunt but believe that even if I get a combo tag, I can't still hunt the unit unless I draw it. And I'm not too interested in learning a new area.

If you would PM me a brief summary of how the PP draw works for NRs, I ould like to PM you the unit I'm asking specifics about.

Thanks
