NR Sheep Hunt

I have never applied for Montana in anything. I really want to kill a Rocky MNT sheep at some point in my life. My question is starting now as a non res, do I have any chance at all for drawing a sheep tag in a good area, or is it too late for me to even get in this game...

No it is not too late though you are 11 bonus points behind and this year Montana is squaring bonus points like they do in Nevada. With that said however, you can still have a chance to draw since they are bonus points (more chances) and not preference points (he who has the most points gets the tag). If you are the lucky type you could certainly draw a tag right out of the chute. Granted, your odds will not be quite as good as those NRs with squared bonus points, but even with max points the odds for a NR are lottery type odds. Odds last year were on the order of 1:200 to 1:300 without respect to bonus points for the better units. Also NR's are limited to 10% of the region's tags and are in the same drawing pool as the residents. There are not to many opportunities to hunt sheep on a draw tag so you might as well throw your name in the hat and fight it out with the rest of us NRs...

Good luck if you decide to apply!

Never too late IMO....how old are you? Just put a buddy of mine in this year and he is 25. I started at 40 and now have 5 points. If I live to be 65 I WILL DRAW (I hope)!

Go for it if you don't mind forking out the money upfront. Did my desert last year and would love a Rocky.

You will probably never draw if you start applying but you will definitely never draw if you don't. I have applied in 6 or more states for about 30 years and have never drawn a sheep tag which is not really that surprising. However my son drew a Rocky tag in NM when he was 17 on his 7th or 8th try. I had been putting him in since he was about 10 years old.
